Being a knight in shining armor is not as glamorous as it looks.

This interactive series will enthrall young and reluctant readers (Ages 8-12) by making them part of the story, inviting them to become the main character. Each book uses humorous illustrations to depict the sometimes dark and horrific side of life during important eras in history.

Follow the progress of a young English boy at the beginning of the 15th century as he goes through the rigorous traning to become a knight, and faces the dangers of sieges and jousts. This new extended edition includes a map, a timeline of the Crusades, and a selection of exciting facts.

It's hard not to be drawn in by the colorful cover, comic-like illustration and funky title font. I like the author's approach to teaching about history by putting the reader in the setting as the main character. The book is a fun overview of the topic for those just interested in learning more about knights but can also be used for research purposes due to the Table of Contents, Glossary and index pages.

This was a fun look at being knight. It showed the hardships with a bit of humor. Students will enjoy learning about the middle ages and about how gross/dangerous that time period was.

You Wouldn't Want to be a Medieval Knight is part of the "You Wouldn't Want to... series of informational graphic novels for children. Each book explains in great detail many of the gruesome and creepy aspects to eras in history. Boys will almost certainly enjoy the cartoon violence of the graphics. While not sugar-coating anything, the books humorously describe what life was like for people living in these times. In this example, author Fiona MacDonald tells readers what nasty things boys had to endure if they wanted to become knights. Children will be surprised to find that being a knight was not so glamorous!

A very comical look in the life of a medieval knight. Special attention is paid to the reader in that everything described in the book is reverse psychology. It starts with the title saying you wouldn't want to be a medieval knight. Very, very Funny!

The kids just love this series. Something about listing all the ways a Knight could die just tickles them. But it was a wonderfully fact filled book and the kids totally dug all the ick.
