Addison Holmes is a diamond in the rough, though she's feeling more like a big lump of coal. Teaching history in Whiskey Bayou, Georgia isn't exactly the most exciting job, but at least it's stable. Until she finds her principal dead in the parking lot of the seedy gentleman's club she was stripping in. Don't judge. Teachers don't exactly make the big bucks.

When Addison finds herself out of a job, she turns to her best friend, Kate, who owns the McClean Detective Agency. Addison is a natural at the job. Living in a small town has given her all the skills she needs to spy on other people and pass silent judgment. Sometimes being nosy has its advantages.

When her principal's murder reveals more Whiskey Bayou secrets than people are comfortable with, the suspect list grows longer than Addison's arm. Fortunately, the detective in charge seems more than capable of finding the killer and driving her crazy at the same time.

Review by Ursula: An entertaining, fun read. Addison has a knack for getting into trouble. She has horrible luck and it's only going to get worse. The story was well told from a first person point of view and moved the action on at a steady pace. Addison's mom, best friend and co-worker are the perfect addition to the story. They make the story more interesting and provide relief from Addison's horrible mishaps that seem to happen at an unnatural pace. Nick, the cop working on the murder case that Addison first reported when she tripped over the body, was a likeable character and you enjoyed the scenes he was in. He is a good cop, very capable and determined; because of that, this is where the only problem I have with the story comes up. The police are on the case, and an accident prone, bad luck, unexperienced high school teacher feels she needs to embroil herself in the investigation. With multiple deaths, Addison feeling she should be involved in the case was somewhat irritating, especially when she keeps crucial evidence from the police. Overall, the story is worth reading. It is well written, entertaining and a quick read. I enjoyed the character developement of each of the principles. There were several different people involved, but Liliana gives you enough character building for each one that you feel you get to know them.

This was a really good laugh out loud book. Addison was funny and had such great adventures. Everything with her was an adventure. It seemed like trouble followed her. Nick was a by the books police officer and Kate was a great friend. I am looking forward to reading more of Addison's adventures.

What a great fun book to read. You won’t want to put it down. It has a little bit of everything in it; murder, mystery, love, mothers and humor. Very light read but so enjoyable. Everyone can relate to a teacher who has her fiancée leave her at the altar, her apartment building is condemned and starts a job as a stripper to earn a little extra money, right? And since there’s a murder in the area, why not do a little detective work too. And of course, while doing surveillance work there’s that great looking cop. Yep, this was a great book! I look forward to reading more by Lilian Hart.

I'm not going to write a recap about the book since that's already been done. I'm going to tell you to read this book - you will not regret it. I smiled, giggled and laughed out loud so many times during this read and you will too. Addison is a believable character. I love how clumsy she is and her reactions to the situations she falls into. Looking forward to reading more in this series and her other series. Enjoy!

I loved this book! It was very good. Kind of like a southern redneck Stephanie Plum. I can wait to read the next 2 in this series. I bought them right away and I hope there is more to come. I also see other books by this author and if they are even half as good as this series it will definitely be worth a look! This book was very well written & very entertaining. Not many can keep my attention but this one did! So read this everyone! You have nothing to lose since this one is free for the nook! Enjoy, I certainly did!

Didn't seem like much of a mystery until the end when the heroine started actively trying to solve the murders. However, I found it funny and entertaining. There are a lot of wacky situations that keep your interest. I would read more by this author.

Enjoyed the story. I never laughed so hard as I did while reading this story. It is about a school teacher who is trying to find a second job and the trouble she gets herself in.

I haven't read a book this funny since the first few Janet Evanovich books. What a treat to find this on the Pubit! shelves. Addison Holmes is a great character and her zany relatives and coworkers add comic relief from the darkness of the murder plot. A definite recommendation to everyone.

I enjoyed this book. Light, funny, and a hot male lead! Still, there needs to be some additional editing. Lots of typos! I do plan on reading the next installment!

Well-written 188 page story of a ditzy, accident-prone high school teacher in a small southern town. An excerpt from next book included. Not an imperative purchase.

If you like Stephanie Plum then you will love Addison Holmes! Plenty of laugh out loud moments, but with enough smarts so the reader can still respect the heroine. Perfect weekend escape read!

I agree with the other reviewers about how funny this book is. I couldn't put it down, and pretty much laughed on every page. Addison Holmes is the girl next door mixed with Lucy Ricardo. I hope there's another book in this series soon.

I was laughing out loud at this book. It was light and fun, and the characters had great chemistry. A perfect summer read.

There is absolutely nothing good to say about this, and I am totally baffled by how it got good reviews. I really struggled to finish it. The main character is an irritating immature ditz overly obsessed with sex. The male police detective she has the hots for is an arrogant, condescending jerk. Except for one minor character, none of the other characters are remotely likable. There are feeble attempts at humor that fail miserably. The story ends abruptly with the solution to the mystery rushed and some things left unexplained. This was free and still I feel cheated. Don't waste your time. JB

Just sadly disappointing and formulaic. Kitt

Don't let the slow start fool you. This is not another predictable book about a gal down on her luck who meets Prince Charming. A good 'who did it?' with twists and turns that keep you gueesing. Such a great variety of characters - and good job of relationship development. Setting is simple. Not a mystery/crime book with lot of depth to the plot (certainly not a Grisham or Baldacci) but a quick easy read with a good bit of sexual overtones. AH

I had a hard time getting into this book.

Lacking maturity -- so very glad it was free. Couldn't get past the third chapter due to the 30 year old ditz that is the heroine. Too freakin' unbelievable for a high school history teacher to be stuck on dressing, thinking and behaving as if she's the age of her students. Maybe it gets better further in, but not going to waste the time.

I have never laughed so much out loud while reading a book! Great read! I enjoyed it from front to back and look forward to reading the rest of the series. Thank you Liliana Hart for making me laugh so hard when I needed it most. Addison and the rest of the characters are true gems.
