Emerson Drive's rocket ride to the upper echelon of mainstream country chartdom was no accident. The stylish, photogenic sextet temper the macho swagger of their pounding country rock with urgent lead vocals and plaintive harmonies, and the message they put forth is that they're a bunch of real men unafraid to wear their hearts on their sleeves. Having massive hits does such brawny sensitivity make. "If You Were My Girl" (one of five songs on the disc co-written by Richard Marx) soars and stomps as it tells a tale of all the good things a fellow would do for the girl of his dreams. Sputtering guitars and a wailing fiddle set the pace for "November," before it settles into a reminiscence of new love that is as sweet tempered lyrically as it is rhythmically propulsive. "Take It from Me" breaks free of its quiet opening to evolve into a hard-charging, rockish promise of devotion directed at a reluctant would-be lover. A bonus track, the quasi-power ballad "Rescue," rides a wave of stinging guitar licks and right-there percussion as the harmonies mesh on a high, heartfelt plane in a musical valentine to a woman whose love saved the day. Sounds like this Emerson Drive is a road that goes on forever.

This CD is AWESOME! Every song on the album is great. The cover of "Fishin' In The Dark" is much better than the original with the new rock edge. Songs like "What If?" "You're Like Coming Home" and "Still Got Yesterday" make it a hit and wonderful addition to any CD collection.
Emerson Drive is not your stereotypical country band ... and their new CD "WHAT IF?" shows just how versatile they are. The songs that were selected for this CD are OUTSTANDING and incorporate some amazing writing talents by some of the band members and RICHARD MARX, who not only cowrote and penned a few of the songs, but was personally requested by Emerson Drive to PRODUCE this CD with them. What a DYNAMIC combination! If you're a little bit country, songs like LEMONADE, NOVEMBER, and FISHIN' IN THE DARK will quench your thirst. If you're a little bit rock 'n roll, songs like LAST ONE STANDING, IF YOU WERE MY GIRL, WAITIN' ON ME and YOU'RE LIKE COMING HOME will start your toes tappin' and get your head boppin'. If you're into loves songs ... I'LL DIE TRYING, TAKE IT FROM ME, and SIMPLE MIRACLES will steal your heart away. The title track "WHAT IF?" ... well, to be honest, I don't know where to place that song ... it's just a GREAT SONG! The entire CD is just AWESOME! My only regret is that I can only give "WHAT IF?" a 5-star rating ... it truly deserves more than that!
I really have to say that this is way better then their first cd.Brad's voice sounds way different but in a good way.Its really hard to pick a faviorite song because they did a very good job a picking the songs.I have to ask though, does anyone else like picture videos for every sond thats on both cds? Caz when iIm listening to either cd I picture them in my head how they would look.
I have been a fan of Emerson Drive's music since I first heard them. But being that they are a Canadian band, it is hard to find their CDs here in the States. But not on Barnes on Noble. I found exactly what I was looking for and it is perfect.
