What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton

A TIME MAGAZINE BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR AND NEW YORK TIMES NOTABLE BOOK

“In the past, for reasons I try to explain, I’ve often felt I had to be careful in public, like I was up on a wire without a net. Now I’m letting my guard down.” —Hillary Rodham Clinton, from the introduction of What Happened

For the first time, Hillary Rodham Clinton reveals what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history. Now free from the constraints of running, Hillary takes you inside the intense personal experience of becoming the first woman nominated for president by a major party in an election marked by rage, sexism, exhilarating highs and infuriating lows, stranger-than-fiction twists, Russian interference, and an opponent who broke all the rules. This is her most personal memoir yet.

In these pages, she describes what it was like to run against Donald Trump, the mistakes she made, how she has coped with a shocking and devastating loss, and how she found the strength to pick herself back up afterward. With humor and candor, she tells readers what it took to get back on her feet—the rituals, relationships, and reading that got her through, and what the experience has taught her about life. She speaks about the challenges of being a strong woman in the public eye, the criticism over her voice, age, and appearance, and the double standard confronting women in politics.

She lays out how the 2016 election was marked by an unprecedented assault on our democracy by a foreign adversary. By analyzing the evidence and connecting the dots, Hillary shows just how dangerous the forces are that shaped the outcome, and why Americans need to understand them to protect our values and our democracy in the future.

The election of 2016 was unprecedented and historic. What Happened is the story of that campaign and its aftermath—both a deeply intimate account and a cautionary tale for the nation.

Ignore the reviews of those who haven't read it that are in here. This book was released on 9/12 not 9/11 so that person did not read it. Brilliant insight into the behind the scenes of what was the most tumultuous election of my times. Clinton writes in ways that amuse and entertain you but also gives you real insight into how difficult this campaign really was. We watched it on tv and read about it in the papers, but it is a breath of fresh air to hear real accounts of what happened from someone who can recall it all and express it in a way that allows us all to understand and view what was beyond us at the time.

I actually read this book trying to find a way to like this person despite all that your read and hear about her. I mean, no one can be truly as bad as how they are depicted by the MSM, right? I wanted to feel bad for her as she truly portrayed herself as someone who cared about so many issues that face our country despite hearing she was in this race because she DESERVED to be President. I wanted so badly to find an ounce of humanity in her....Well, I didn't. After reading this book and trying to fairly give her a shot, I am at a loss. She took "cheap shots" at just about anyone she felt was a fair target. She truly depicts herself as better than others and her words drip with condescending tones, narcissism and an overall attitude of entitlement. Her choice of words and phrasing will leave one seeing that HRC truly thinks she is superior to those she was to serve. The fact that she refuses to look in the mirror and hold herself accountable should not shock anyone who reads this.

Well written by a Yale Law School graduate, former Secretary of State, First Lady, Senator and public servant since she was 19. Encouraging. Inspirational Most of these reviewers commented before the book was published on September 12, 2017. So, just ignore the haters In the past 9 months all of what Hillary tried to tell people throughout her campaign has been proven true. Trumps claims, vicious accusations and mad man antics.

Funny how Clinton haters respond to this. The book is historical perspective. She is polarizing. Good read.

Worth the read . Ignore the hateful remarks. She does take responsibility for her loss. I also agree with the assessment of coverage of the campaign. She will make you laugh and cry!

Well-written, informative, and in may ways ... painful. This is Hillary's story and she is allowed to tell it any way she wants to tell the story. The 2016 election was a nightmare for many reasons; Trump, Comey, Sanders, and those who have "hated" Hillary for more than 25 years. Bravo for the courage to tell her own version.

A look behind the scenes of an election like no other. I found the sectiin on women particularly fascinating. Ultimately inspiratiinal look at a smart, thoughtful, deeply committed woman.

This book is just a way for her to make millions more. Her attempt to make people feel bad for her loss almost sounds like a fight in divorce court for a child. She puts herself on a pedestal and is completely ignorant when it comes to possible flaws in her message or campaign.

I am a life long Democrat that in all good conscience could not vote for Hillary. She just can't relate to the average American citizen. I had hoped this book would have shown some incite into why she lost the election but it is just more of the same old, same old. She gave the election to Trump, with all her elitist ways. No idea what most America's wanted and needed. If you really want to read this book, borrow it from the library, don't waste your money.

What Happened? Well, the country saw thru her lies and corruption and the majority of them voted against her. Was Trump the best choice? Maybe, maybe not. But he was BETTER than her. What Happened? She, again blames everyone but the one in the mirror. She claims to be a patriot, than honor the voting process, concede that the country voted against her and show support and respect for the President. The President that the majority of the country voted into office.

Apart from determining if the information in the book was legible or not, it seems very candid. A few things were interesting to know, and to realize how they changed the course of history.

This is a boring whiny book that sounds like the author is still running for the presidency. She accepts zero fault and glosses over the scandals and problems of her life and her foundation. She picks and chooses President Trumps words out of context and belittles him every chance she gets. But she is the holy one. If you are a fan of hers maybe you will like the little insights into her life. But it is a tedious slog nontheless

This is not rocket science and i don't need a few hundred pages to address 'what happened'. In fact, I can do it in 2 words. YOU LOST. What a horrid example she sets with her poor sport attitudes. Now, please Hillary, stop WHINING!

The book is nothing but lame excuses, and I am sorry to have wasted by money buying it, and my time reading it.

Reading this book made me get on my knees and thank God in heaven that this woman is not our president. Condescending, self-absorbed and vindictive... and those are her good qualities. But more than that, the writing itself is horrible. Full of awkward attempts at humor, embarrassingly on-the-nose metaphors and passive-agressive digs at her opponents, Hillary reminds us all what a truly despicable person she is. The awkward, vapid prose of this book is clearly aimed at the limited intellectual capacity of her devoted liberal followers. She is transparently self-aggrandizing but lacks any real intellectual depth. It is clear now, that all her achievements in life were only because of the man she married. Had she not done that, she would have remained in complete obscurity. A dowdy, bitter old feminist hag, spewing contempt for all things truly feminine and beautiful in the world. Now she's a famous, dowdy, bitter old feminist hag.

Compelling. The most honest book out there.
