What simpler way could there be to express to children the beauty and the harmony in the world around them than through the lyrics of this song by George David Weiss and Bob Thiele, made famous by the great Louis Armstrong? And what better visual accompaniment than the bright colorful artwork by award-winning Ashley Bryan depicting children of many backgrounds (and Louis Armstrong himself) performing a puppet show that brings the lyrics to life. Here is a book of brightness, wonder, and hope to be shared by all.

The author speaks of what he sees. He speaks of the ways things appear such as the day or night. He tells us how the world appears to him such as the flowers blooming, the rainbow in the sky and the colors of the dreams. The author admires the world around him and the illustrator depicts the things that the author is singing about. There are pictures of the stars in the sky and the colors in the rainbow, as well as babies that he sings about crying. The author demonstrates his love for the world he live in by singing about it.

What a Wonderful World (Hardcover) by George David Weiss Reading this book to kindergarten first and second grade. Kindergarten was mesmerized by the book, and the song. The kids thought it was too fast to read the story as a song.

I use this book to introduce kids to Louis Armstrong and a song with a wonderful message. The pictures grab the kids attention and compliment the song. I teach a yoga "dance" of poses to this song. It's great!

I love how so many illustrators are using great songs to create children's books. I play the song along with the book and have the kids sing along once they learn it. This is such a wonderful message and I am thankful for this book. Please share it with as many kids as you can find!!
