The plane circled in the dark. Joe Pickett could just make out down below a figure in the snow and timber, and then three other figures closing in. There was nothing he could do about it. And Joe knew that he might be their next target.

The Cates family had always been a bad lot. Game warden Joe Pickett had been able to strike a fierce blow against them when the life of his daughter April had been endangered, but he’d always wondered if there’d be a day of reckoning. He’s not wondering any longer. Joe knows they’re coming after him and his family now. He has his friend Nate by his side, but will that be enough this time? All he can do is prepare . . . and wait for them to make the first move.

Once again, a great read. I just love this series. Joe and h Joe and his family are so believable. A down to earth, reluctant hero. I particularly like the settings.

I hope that Joe and Marybeth don't retire before I die, that Nate shows up a little sooner and mentors Sheridan for a few chapters and that Rulon pops back up for a spell. Let April succeed on the rodeo circuit and have Missy send Lucy to Julliard.

Awesome book. Recommend as easy reading.

Excellent story line, and love the characters! BUT Missy didn't kill Bud Longbrake and hang him from a wind turbine, it was Earl Alden. In the scene where Dallas Cates' two thug-budd ies were killed, Dallas didn't "step over Cates' body". (That would have been him). Looking forward to the next book anyway!

Plz help! I'm a girl who is friends with only boys- and I like one of them! I think he likes me back, but my other friends are so bleh at romance. They don't even like the sixth Harry Potter book because of it! I don't want to make things weird. Help! &female Ember &female

While trying to catch illegal poachers, Game Warden Joe Pickett gets called into searching for a missing hunter. Seeing the image of a man on their plane’s radar system, Joe thinks the hunter has been located but then sees three other images and flashes which he realizes are muzzle flashes from guns. Has he just observed a murder? On the ground, he learns that his old nemesis Dallas Cates is out of prison and seeking revenge for the death of his father and brothers and imprisonment of his mother. He refuses to acknowledge his part in the fight and puts the blame squarely on Joe. Joe’s wife and daughters are also in danger and their safety is one thing Joe will not jeopardize.

Above book is good but, The Perfect Author is my favourite book. Only initial 3 chapters are there.. Wont take much time to read. Really breath holding... Waiting for the next release !

The characters act and sound like families should when everyone loves and takes care of each other. The sibling bickering sounds like my own family. Hope the next book will come soon. Jane S-Georgetown, TX.

Disappointed in the story. Seemed put together in a hurry and not too believable in plot and character.

I liked this book because it reminded me of the first Joe Picket book the author wrote. Hope the next one is the same.
