I fell in love with the storyline and the characters. Finally a book with educated and successful African American characters that have depth and are relatable. I couldn't put it down and read the book in one night. I can't wait for the sequel. I am truly looking forward to more from C. Chilove.

"Unlocked: Rekindled Flames” by C. Chilove has to be one of the most original and compelling novels I’ve read in a while. I was completely drawn in from the get-go, and absolutely loved Chilove’s narrative voice of being inside Alonna’s POV, and the way she does such great dialogue with the characters. And Donovan is so HOT (swoon!!!)It’s not overdone where we know every last bit but you more FEEL like you really know them. The prose and narrative were some of the best I’ve encountered lately in any genre (not just for ‘romance’) –but beautiful and descriptive and with a literary flow. You cannot fake that, and Chilove has it in spades. It was an emotional, sexxxxxy, and compelling ‘journey’ from the intriguing beginning to the end, and not one I’ll soon forget. There are some minor proofing and editing issues, nothing too terrible. Would love to read more from this author in the future! Recommend for mature readers.

4.5 stars This was the first book I’ve read by C. Chilove, but I certainly hope it’s not the last! She has a wonderful gift of writing atmospheric and life-like, sexy, erotic, heart-grabbing scenes that make us feel like we are really there inside the story and the characters’ heads (and beds!), as opposed to it all just being “told” to us, as so many authors make the mistake of doing. I like that this book didn’t feel stale or derivative, but instead like a romantic, almost spiritual, new niche of literary erotic romance/drama that serves well to help diversify a somewhat cookie-cutter genre (in my opinion). I appreciated the depth of the intricate emotional subplots. To me this was just as much of a ‘life’ story than a ‘love’ story, that is both profound and also has romantic and erotic elements. But it is so deep and spiritual, a love so strong and powerful that it lasts over lifetimes, the two twin flames ‘rekindled’. But alas it’s not without its complications, and it’s hard to see if this will be the lifetime that Alonna and Donnavon finally get it right. Lots of twists in this powerful read. Overall the entire novel was one that I thought was nicely written and delivered an emotional win in the end, even if bittersweet. Would like to read more from C. Chilove.

I have some mixed feelings on “Unlocked: Rekindled Flames” by C. Chilove – the good part was that this is an excellent novel that captured my interest from the start. Each scene was riveting, imaginative, and well written, and I enjoyed the main characters and their unusual, sexy romance – they felt very real, and not standard stock characters with the typical overused tropes we see in this genre (but of course are gorgeous and sexy and rich, haha), but genuine unique and very relatable. Absolutely crucial in a novel such as this. We genuinely feel their angst and internal conflict, and the ‘complicated’ relationships with the other cast were very realistic as well. The only problem for me was that at times there was just too long of periods where it seemed like there was little forward action, and things were just ‘happening’ and much of the conversations seemed like just filler. There was some repetition and I just longed for more ‘higher stakes’. And some important events seemed glossed over and lacking an emotional impact (e.g. the twin flames reveal to Alonna towards the end) Several supporting or side characters seemed to ‘come-and-go’, but left little impact, and while the ending is quite nice, it feels unfinished, yet there is no mention of a follow-up book… is there more? But even with that said, I really did enjoy this book and would definitely read more from C. Chilove in the future. She has a great way of creating a complex, profound story and developing romantic and memorable characters who stay with you. Recommend for mature readers only (18+) due to scenes of graphic sex.

"Unlocked: Rekindled Flames” by C. Chilove takes us on a thrilling, sexy, romantic experience. The beginning starts off a little slow, but I liked meeting the characters and seeing how everything is connected in ways that we don’t realize at first. The strong, passionate writing pulls you in and takes you along for the ride as we experience life through Alonna’s eyes (this book is written in her POV, first person present tense). I have to say I really liked reading this and like the author’s tone and writing style a lot (for example: “This euphoric high has me strutting down the corridors to my office like Naomi Campbell, working the catwalk in Versace” ha awesome!!!) and even though there were a few times where the characters (or their actions) were making me crazy, and I did find a few things to feel a tad cliché (the past lives, eternal love) there is a level of freshness and believability there that makes reading these books a magical, rewarding, almost spiritual experience. As I read tons of romance novels I already had the bar set pretty high in my mind for this one and I wasn’t at all disappointed at all… I think I even liked this one a bit more than normal--- so much fun and wasn’t predictable. And I never really knew what was going to happen (especially with Morgan) or not so that kept me on my toes. While it’s not perfect (could use some better proofing and trimming of some unnecessary dialogue or descriptions) I thought the story as a whole was pretty great and I’m happy to have read it and will recommend it to fans of romance and drama.

I really like how even though this novel is about a romantic love between soulmates (twin flames) that has happened in past lives, (which is a literary trope that I have encountered before in romance), the story never becomes predictable or feels cliché, and there are some serious plot twists I didn’t see coming… (Most of) the characters were so well-developed and fleshed out I feel like I knew them personally, and for some reason this book felt more like a ‘real’ romance than most I’ve read, if this makes sense. Liked that it wasn’t corny or cheesy, but the leads were smart, successful, and strong (especially liked how Alonna was), not just some simpering female waiting to be saved. The pacing was good, but there were some minor proofing errors (more towards the beginning than later on)…and I did think the beginning was a bit too slow before we saw any real inciting incident. But I liked the buildup and watching the relationship with Alonna and Donavan unfold. Overall an emotionally seductive and satisfying escape that I highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a great romance novel with a unique take on the “soul mates” angle. C. Chilove did a terrific job making this story feel like something we haven’t read a million times, which is pretty impressive for this genre! Ready for more from her soon. Recommend for adults only.

I was very impressed with how simply and effortlessly C. Chilove can tell this addicting, multi-layered story with well-developed world building and great characters and still manage to make romance feel so fresh! Problem with so many of these types of books (dealing with soul mates/ past lives, etc…) that I find is that they really are just super hard to really believe, or worse, just a retelling of the same tired plots. But even with the borderline-mystical vibe of the storyline we are all in, hooked on every scene, as I thought Alonna and Donovan’s romance was not only hot, but beautiful and believable. It definitely was not without its complications! I like Chilove’s writing style very much-- very descriptive and passionate and with great chemistry. An engaging and intoxicating read all through to the end that feels familiar enough to fit well in the genre, but fresh enough to keep us interested. Love the ending – it wraps up well but makes us want even more… will there be? Recommend for mature readers as there is an erotic element and adult scenes.

This book had a neat concept. Soul mates are supposed to be the ultimate bond between a couple but this author introduces something much more powerful, something called Twin Flames. I love the idea of two souls coming together life after after life. To have something that strong that even death can't take away is intriguing. In previous lives, there love is cut very short. These two must give themselves completely to each other to not repeat the same mistakes they've made in past lives. I'm not exactly clear on what they did wrong in the past lives but it seems it always involved a jealous lover. This probably gets explained more in the next book. In present time, they have the same interference. What bothers me about this story and makes the Twin Flame not believable to me is that there is other woman in Donovan's life. He is engaged when he meets Alonna. He breaks it off, but we still have to deal with the ex throughout the story. And the biggest thing that made the bond of a Twin Flame not believable to me, he openly flirts with one of Alonna's best friends. This may seem trivial, but if this is the ultimate bond between a couple, there shouldn't be any hint of other women/men in their lives. Even flirtation. If it wasn't for this, I would have really loved this story. I'm a huge fan of a relationship that is so strong, nothing can break it. This one just didn't seem strong. ARC provided by NetGalley.

This book is worth every star! I really enjoyed reading this story because it wasn't your usual romance. The time travel idea was so different and it through me for a loop at first, but the way it was woven into the plot was interesting and just made this not your ordinary romance. Alonna (heroine) and Donovan (hero) have AWESOME chemistry! From the moment they meet until the end you will be cheering for them and their HEA!
