From Dav Pilkey, creator of the New York Times bestselling Dog Man and Captain Underpants series, comes a tall tale of tall-tailed toms!

On the night before Thanksgiving, a group of children visit a turkey farm and meet Farmer Mack Nuggett and his coop of cockerels: Ollie, Stanley, Larry, Moe, Wally, Beaver, Shemp, and Groucho. The children and turkeys giggle and gobble, and everything is gravy. As the trip comes to an end, the children leave the farm with full hearts — and bulging bellies — reminding people and poultry alike that there is much to be thankful for.

About the Author

As a child, Dav Pilkey was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. Dav was so disruptive in class that his teachers made him sit out in the hall every day. Luckily, Dav loved to draw and make up stories, so he spent his time in the hallway creating his own original comic books. In the second grade, Dav Pilkey created a comic book about a superhero named Captain Underpants. His teacher ripped it up and told him he couldn’t spend the rest of his life making silly books. Fortunately, Dav was not a very good listener. Dav has gone on to create award-winning and bestselling books for children. His Captain Underpants series has more than 80 million copies in print worldwide and has been translated into more than 28 languages. In 2017, DreamWorks Animation brought the character to the silver screen in the feature film adaptation Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, and Netflix is now streaming The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants TV show. Dav’s latest creation, Dog Man, continues to be a #1 New York Times bestselling series with more than 23 million copies in print worldwide and translations available in more than 32 languages. Dav is also the creator of the Dragon series, the Dumb Bunnies series, Dog Breath, and The Paperboy, which is a Caldecott Honor Book. Dav lives in the Pacific Northwest with his wife.

A different twist about Thanksgiving. The first reading scared a few of my kinder students simply because of the thought of killing an animal to eat was a little scary. But the children quickly came to love the story. The rhyming text draws the children in to listen for the entire story. It is consistently voted as a re-read with my children. Once again I stress the rhyming words and then we discuss the series of events that happen within the story. Check out the "The Night Before" series of books - promise these will be frequently requested as well.

This book reeks of animal rights propoganda, but it's clever and cute for the most part. Farmer MacDonald is made out to be a bit scary, but they redeem him in some ways. But seriously, the man is just trying to make a living, and here all these kids go stealing from him and it is something to be celebrated because all the turkey will LIVE!We have read this book every year, but this is the first year I've ever really had an issue with it. Probably because my son is a little more perceptive at the age he is now. I had to explain to him that the farmer isn't a villain and he wanted to know if the kids were heroes from stealing the turkeys from the farm. This is a fun rhyming book for the little tots who just like to look at pictures of turkeys around Thanksgiving, but I will not be checking it out for my now school aged child again

I'm so glad that I purchased this book on a whim. It fun and entertaining with bright illustrations. A fun story for everyone to read and enjoy. Wish it was in hardback, my daughters still rough with the paperbacks.

You can't help but read this book aloud -- it sounds so familiar and you know you have never read it! Then, since you are in the end of the year holidays, you KNOW! - you are reading "Twas the Night Before Christmas". I usually do not like parodies of well known themes, but this book has such wonderful colorful illustrations of characters and events that tell more to the older reader (over toddler age) that are not explicitly in text, and just plain laugh out loud fun to share, that unconsciously knowing the rhythm adds to the enjoyment of reading it. My first, second and preschool grade grandchildren all had fun listening/reading "Twas the Night before Thanksgiving", as did their parents and this Grandma.

My 10 year old memorized this story last year at Thanksgiving for a school project. After hearing her rendition, our entire family thought it was a funny story that we needed to have at home to read for the holidays. Mom, dad, 10 year old, 6 year old and 3 year old all enjoy this tale!

I bought this book w/ the expectation that it would be a cute story for a toddler. Please don't make this mistake! The farmer brings out an ax and says 'These feathery beasts will be chopped up and roasted for Thanksgiving'

This is a Fantastic and Humerous book! My 3 year old loved it! I read the book each night to him before Thanksgiving about 2 weeks....and each night he looked forward to seeing the school bus going to the field trip and seeing old Farmer Mac Nugget in his Polyester and Velcro!! Too cute and great antics. Highly recommend this to any parent to get their children into Thanksgiving and the love of a child and living.

This is one of the most hilarious children's books ever. I was a preschool teacher for several years and my students loved this book. Now, my own children love listening to it year round.

After reading the book and considering what my 6 yr old daughter and 11 year old son had to say after reading it... I would offer this. It is entertaining to young minds, such as my 6 yr old, that are forming their own opinions on right and wrong. Some of the more advanced adult silliness was picked up by my 11 yr old. If you speak gibberish to a baby the child will only learn chibberish. Plus the book is just plane fun!!!
