Overview

Gayle Saunders and Patricia Reid were total opposites who chose each other as best friends when they were children. Through the years they were raised together, as close as sisters. Gayle, the beauty pampered by her working-class parents, believes a man will make her world complete. Pat, the brainy one, is the hand-me-down child whose mystery parentage haunts her. She's determined to finally make a home for herself: in the executive suite at the top of her career. And then there is Marcus Carter, linked to both women from the moment a childhood tragedy bonds them in secrecy. Tryin' to Sleep in the Bed You Made is more than a novel—it's the reading experience that swept the country. You will be drawn into the lives of these honest and believable characters from the first page—and they won't let you go until the last.

Gayle and Patricia are really great soul friends, they came around full circle in their lives. I read Gotta Keep On Tryin first, I just had to have the beginning and now I Love these two authors, they touch home with their characters, kept you reading and you just flow with the characters. I have two more to read my them, hope I will enjoy those as much as I enjoyed these two.

I discovered the authors on Library thing and their book was recommended to me by LT based on my reading choices listed. First off, you do not need to be an African American to enjoy this book about friendship and family.I am old white woman and read the book for the characters and the story. The story centers around two young woman who have a bond based on circumstances and a tragedy. My favorite character is Pat who was raised by her Grandmother when her mother left her and took off for the big city. After her Granmother dies is shipped to live with her Aunt. The Aunt is her last living relative who feels she is "stuck" with Pat. When social services deem that her Aunt, Pat is put into foster care. Gale, Pat's best convinces her parents to take Pat into their houseshold and they do.Pat is an intelligent and driven young lady who knows that a college eduction will change her life. When Pat is offer a scholarship to a prep school, Gale feels abandon.Gale cannot understand why Pat needs to attend college.I do not want to spoil the story for you but highly recommend this book to all those girlsfriends out in LibraryThing.

This story is about two friends that grew up together and then lost contact with each other. Their lives took turns that they hadn¿t planned on but eventually, they found each other.Gale was the prissy girl who seemed to get her way on everything. She was spoiled and everything was always about her. Patricia didn¿t have what Gale had but was glad that Gale was her friend. But Patricia soon realized that Gale was all about herself.Gale married Ramsey Hilliard and they had a daughter, Vanessa. Ramsey seemed like a good guy and he probably was but that demon, Gambling, took over his life and he staged his own suicide so that he could remain in hiding from being in so much debt from gambling. This left Gale and Vanessa with nothing and they ended up in a shelter where Patricia came back in contact with Gale.Patricia found out who her father was and he didn¿t want to have anything to do with her. Patricia was also doing really well at her job but from no where, she was let go and since her job was her life, she didn¿t know what else to do. Marcus Carter, a childhood friend came back into Patricia¿s life and they ended up getting married. It took me a while to get through this book but it was pretty good.

There are no words to describe the dept of this book. I am waiting on the movie! Even though there is no way this story can be told in 2 hours. It was so edge of your seat, stay up all night, let one eye sleep & one eye read material. The movie still plays in my mind. What's happening with them now! The characters became my friends. The way they had something fabulous at ever corner in the book is amazing. Just when you thought, could it get anymore interesting, BAM! I laughed, cried, cheered & realized what real life is all about. We all can relate to growing up with old friends & the difference in us all. This book shows strength. It shows what life is all about, Ups & Downs! I strongly recommend spending your last to purchase this book immediately. You don't know good reading, until you have this one under your belt. I went back & purchased it on Hardback for my collection. This is a 'MUST' have....TODAY!

This is a must read book. It was introduced to me by a co-worker in 1999 who had received it from a friend. This book was so well put together it was passed on. This book should be shared among girlfriends and people of all races can relate to it. I read a worn out paperback (for which I passed on) But I placed a Special Order for the Hardcover to keep in my personal library. I also enjoyed it. After all these years I still recommend this book to people. Thank you DeBerry and Grant for a wonderful, touching and heartfelt story.

When I finished this book I immediately emailed the authors to thank them for writing such a beautiful book! I borrowed this book from my mother in law but I'm buying my own copy so I can read it again! The storytelling was so real...I almost felt like an intruder in the characters lives. YOU GO LADIES!! I'm looking forward to your next book! I think this story would make a great movie!
