Wow, I really enjoyed this game! Wicked to the Core is described as an “expand-alone” game because it can be used to expand on the original Villainous game or played by itself. I’m reviewing this game as someone who never played the original Villainous, and I can confirm that it plays GREAT all by itself. You lose nothing by playing Wicked to the Core without the original Villainous (except all the villains that come with the original). I played this as a 2-player game with my wife, and what struck me most is that the amount of interaction between players felt just right. Each player is trying to get their own villain (I played as Hades) to their winning condition (for Hades, it’s getting 3 titans into Olympus). However, each villain is also able to play Fate cards that work against another player. In that way, you get the enjoyment of playing tricks on another person, while simultaneously it’s not very personal, because playing the Fate cards is just a required part of taking your turn. So you get the fun of a “take that!” action without really hurting anyone’s feelings. Each villain in this game has a completely unique goal and unique abilities and challenges in accomplishing that goal. The result is that each villain feels really true to their personality and storyline in the Disney movies. I’d say the game designers really knocked it out of the park with the theme. You’ll find yourself quoting the movies, singing bits from the songs, and even understanding the game strategy more easily because you understand how the story is supposed to go. The component quality is really top notch. The game boards are sturdy, the cards are a good thickness, and the art is gorgeous. My only reservation is that the little pamphlets that describe each villain’s strategy are printed on somewhat flimsy paper. Thankfully you don’t need to references those booklets very often, or else I’d be worried they might be the first things to break down. The first time you play, give yourself a little time to digest the icons and the different cards available to your villain — maybe 15 minutes. The box says a game should last between 45-60 minutes, but my first game took a bit longer than that. Future games will likely get down to the expected range. Overall, I had a ton of fun playing this! As an early reviewer, I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.

As an early reviewer I received a free copy in exchange for my honest opinion. I hadn't played the original Villainous before and was excited to try this out. The art is all beautiful but I couldn't really focus on it because I found the gameplay to be very complicated and hard to follow. We had to refer to the game guide on every turn to make sure we were doing it right. The game box says game play is 50 minutes but unless we were doing it wrong that estimate is way off. We ended up not finishing the game because we got too tired. Still, if you love Disney villains like I do and have the time to dedicate to long gameplay I would recommend trying this.

We love this game. We have not played the original Villainous game before; however, Villainous:Wicked to the Core, is an excellent stand alone game for 2-3 players. We had a great time playing it and enjoyed the strategy and story telling involved. The game boards, pieces, cards, etc are all beautiful. I would definitely recommend this for older kids (tweens and teens) and not littles as it requires a good deal of strategy, etc. Great fun and we can't wait to purchase the original Villainous game as well! As an early reviewer, I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.

The new characters are really fun to play with. This game requires a little bit of strategy and learning the character's cards and objectives. There's also a little bit of luck of the draw involved to find the right cards to play. No game is ever exactly the same and figuring out how to play as a different character keeps things interesting. This game does such an amazing job sticking to the villain's theme and I enjoy reading and seeing each card in everyone's realm. Becoming the target of the fate actions can be a bit frustrating at times, but overall, the game play is fun and thematic. If you enjoy these Disney characters and a little bit of thinking in your game play, I think you'll like this game. I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.

As an early reviewer, I received a free sample in exchange for my honest opinion. I loved the first Villainous, and this is a great follow up to it. The three boards seem to be about the same level of difficulty, which is nice when playing with adults. Some times things can get a little complicated with Character specific cards, but once you play it through once it’s pretty easy to get. That would be my biggest recommendation with either villainous game - play it through once where winning doesn’t matter and you can ask each other questions - it will help everyone understand better. Once you’ve played it once it’s pretty easy to pick up. The information book that comes with it was very nice. It explained things very well and had excellent diagrams to help with setup and game play. Overall I thought it was great. Even my dad, who has a hard time learning new games with moving parts/changing rules, got it and did well. The downfall for him playing is that he didn’t see most of the Disney movies, so he didn’t understand the significance of some of the cards and actions. Still, a great game.

This is a great game that can be played alone as a 2-3 player game or added to the original Villainous game. Villainous is a hit at our game nights and Wicked to the Core adds fun variety to the game. While it only checked one box in the list of villains I was hoping to see in the expansion, I enjoyed these new characters and the new elements they bring to the game. Disney Villainous Wicked to the Core got a thumbs up from everyone at our game night and we are looking forward to more expansions in the future! I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion.

As an early reviewer, I received this game in exchange for my honest opinion ... We've tried this game twice so far but never having played the original Villainous, we had some trouble. Several Wicked to the Core YouTube videos later, we were still confused but then we realized the expansion plays the same way as the original. After two more original Villainous videos, we figured things out and began to have fun. For new gamers like ourselves, it took awhile to remember the order of things and keep track of what turn, etc. but in the end, it is a pretty cool game. We want to try the original Villainous next. The art was fabulous, the components sturdy, the concept pretty awesome :)

I was so excited to hear there was another villainous game coming out. The first one is a big hit in our household. This games was just as big a hit. We love the three additional characters. The game is still well-balanced, has great illustrations and all around fun! Looking forward to more characters in the future! (I received a copy of this game in exchange for my honest opinion.)
