There appear to be few memoirs containing first-hand tank combat stories from the German side. That alone makes this worth a read. All in all I'm glad I purchased it and read it. I found some of the stories of small skirmishes in endless Russian villages a bit tedious. However, it picked up later. It almost seemed to have been written from two different sets of notes in that respect. Of note, the author is most definitely not an apologist for his actions nor for his government.

Intereating memoir from one of our "enemies". Enjoyed his meeting with Himmler and his analysis of the Stauffenburg plotters. Wish he could have added a chapter on his postwar experiences, as Kurt Meyer did in hia memoir "Grenadiers".

The author makes driving a sixty tonne panzer into life and death combat sound simple.
