According to the back of the book, 'The Will to Defy' promised to be a suspense story that would keep me engrossed from beginning to end. That statement wasn't far off the mark really. The story tosses in so many twists and turns that you're constantly shaking your head in wonder. 'I didn't see that one coming,' actually came out of my mouth at one point. Here's a synopsis of the story: Ben, a young, successful family man, is on his way home from work one night when a terrible accident occurs. He strikes and kills a young girl on a bicycle. As if he doesn't feel terrible enough, it turns out that the father of this young girl is one of the most feared criminals out there. Victor Draken, the girl's father quickly promises Ben that he will live to regret his so many words, Draken promises to kill Ben. With mind spinning, Ben is forced to concoct a plan that will save his own life. From here, we go along for the ride. Ben's plan is original, and is directly responsible for the twists and turns that follow from here on out. I was hooked from the beginning..the story is different from most of the books I read, and I enjoyed just getting lost in it. I want to give the author some credit though..because not only is this a mystery/suspense, but this book deals with a whole plethora of human emotion as well, and even brought tears to my eyes a few times. Myler is not just a mystery writer, he has a command over the language that will pull you in and leave the story with you even after you're finished.

An ordinary man is thrust into some extraordinary experiences in this tightly woven suspense/thriller. After a tragic accident takes the life of a powerful mobster's young daughter, the peaceful life of one man and his family becomes a desperate attempt to keep their own world from falling apart. Myler has woven the plot around a set of circumstances that leaves the reader on the edge of their seat wondering how much pressure one man can deal with in his quest to keep himself and his family safe from the consequences of a father's revenge. Psychological suspense at its' most chilling.' -Pamela June Kimmell, Author of 'The Mystery of David's Bridge', Co-Author Pink Jasper'
