Tory has been bumped from foster home to foster home for most of her nine years. Living with yet another new family, this time on a horse ranch for the summer, she falls in love with Lucky, the friendly pony she is allowed to ride. A nearby forest fire forces the family to evacuate, and Tory is devastated when Lucky has to be left behind. With no choice but to stay in town until it’s safe to go back to the ranch, Tory feels as out of place as ever, and her worry for Lucky’s safety makes matters worse. Like Tory, Lucky is a survivor. He escapes from the fire into the woods, where he faces hardship and danger, from lack of water to a brush with a pack of hungry wolves. Will pony and girl find each other again? Kindred spirits, neither of them will stop until they find a way home, wherever that may be.

I love this book so much and it is so good. I can't believe how good it was I related so much to it. I wasn't a foster kid. But I never had many friends because people liked to start rumors and make people turn against just how Julia went off with her friend Deanna. Because Julia would go off with Deanna and Tory would hear Julia talking about her, and how afraid she was to ride (a real horse). Just because she rode and old pony. Iv'e rode for 7 years and i'm not fully advanced because i want to take my time in riding and learning new things about the English and Western world and how much u have to put effort into riding just as much as Tory did. Just because your not and advanced rider or you don't ride a big horse and you don't do as many skills doesn't mean you can't ride and that your not capable in riding. I have a bay 15 hh aqh mare and she is 6 years old and I love her to death. Just because you think you have a better horse than everyone else does that mean you really love that horse is that really your heart horse. Tory and lucky have a very connected relationship where they did just about everything together and loved each other more than anyone else they were soul mates. Julia and Barnabas were great but did they really love each other or was it more that Julia didn't love him as much as she loved going out with her friends. I might not know a lot but i know that having a heart horse is the best thing you shall ever have in your life because having a heart horse makes you feel complete.
