This isn't a book. It's a 17 page medical article with some possible future developments thrown in. I can't believe BN is passing this off as the free Friday selection. Even free, this is a total rip off.

A few pictures, a brief med history and the end. John Grisham should remember how to write...and B&N should remember how many loyal customers they are disrespecting with this zero "free" book.

So years ago when i first boughtmy nook there was a weekly free classic. Then it dwindled to fridays free book. Now we have come to.... well i am not sure is it an ouline for what will be a fullbook or maybe it is a loom athow todonate to research, butresllywhat itcomes down to is no more free fridays. Makes me sad. So B&N gets 0 stars, the tumor outline fors potential book trying to be sold to publisher, 1 star because it lost me on the 3rd "chapter".

Grisham is on the Board of the Focused Ultrasound Foundation, and while I found the research intriguing, it is the author using his notoriety to seek readers to support his cause and donations.

I agree! What happened to actually free books, not short stories? I put one starfor B&n not Grisham.

Quick read about a new treatment option using ultrasound. Maybe he should include a campaign to spur the FDA into quicker action. Also, is this treatment available outside the US on a larger scale?

Great information for all as current treatments are devastating. To the complainers , God forbid you should take 15 minutes out of your self centered lives to learn something that may save your lives one day!

This is not written in a true book format instead, it is a long brochure. Even so, I found the contents to be incredibly interesting. The document tells about a treatment that is still in its infancy called focused ultrasound therapy and all the incredible things that are possible due to it. The way that this treatment is told to the reader is in an interesting format. You are told of a man's battle with a brain tumor, but with two different outcomes. One in today's society and then in the near future using the focused ultrasound therapy. The uses of ultrasound therapy go far beyond just that. What I thought was the most spectacular is how chemotherapy agents could be enclosed in microscopic nanoparticles then injected into a patient's bloodstream when they reach the area of the body that needs to be treated the focused ultrasound then activates the nanoparticles releasing the chemotherapy in the precise area. Therefore, the patient does not have the physical sickness as they do with today's way of delivering chemotherapy drugs. Amazing! If you are interested in science or medicine this is a quick and informative read. I would recommend reading it on your computer or tablet since it’s filled with a lot of pictures.

I'm less than thrilled with this nook. The selection of free books is limited to mainly cheap romance.

Treatments for cancer can be worse than the disease itself. I had a family member who was cancer free when he died from radiation burns and infections caused by the treatments. This books offers hope for something incredibly better if the therapy can be successfully developed. "The Tumor" is a quick and enlightening read.

I purchased based on local library recommendation. I found it very interesting. With todays technology you would think the approval process would move much faster. I will recommend when possible. JDL

Thank you Mr. Grisham! This is a fascinating book, if for no other reason than to raise awareness about a new and cutting edge treatment for numerous diseases and conditions including cancer. Focused ultrasound therapy--WOW what a difference it has and WILL make! This is a must read for everyone!

Well worth reading. I would like to know whether this was a description of a real patient and family or whether it was a synthesis of many patients and their families.
