Overview

A new adult story of Love. Sex. Addiction. Blackmail. And Power...

Some say love can be an addiction. Others say it's the thing that makes life worth living. Let me tell you everything I know about love...Love isn't patient, love isn't kind. Love is a game, a chase. A thrill. Love is wild and war-like, and every man and woman must fight for themselves. At least that's how it was for me. A high-priced virgin call girl by the time I started college, I was addicted to love and to sex. Even though I've never had either. I controlled love, played it, and held the world in the palm of my hands. Then I fell down from those highs, and I'm being blackmailed for all my mistakes, forced to keep secrets from everyone, except the only guy I don't regret.

Trey...
With all the other women, I knew what they were. They were temporary. They were pills, they were bottles, they took away all the pain, and numbed the awful memories that wore down my ragged, wasted heart. Until I met Harley. She's the only girl I ever missed when she walked away. But now she's back in my life, every day, and there are no guarantees for us, especially since I don't know how to tell her my secrets. What happened to my family. All I know is she's the closest I've ever come to something real, and I want to feel every second of it.

How can you love with no regrets when regret is all you know?

Lauren has done it again! I loved The Thrill of it! Harley is a virgin call girl who is messed up and being blackmailed. Trey has secrets from his past the cause him to become a sex addict and very messed up. Trey and Harley meet when she goes into the tattoo shop Trey works at for a tattoo and after a night of making out neither of them expect to see each other again, and they can't get each other off their minds. They meet again at a SLAA meeting and soon become best friends.  They try to resist each other but can they fight the temptations? Will they finally heal enough to move one and find love and happiness with each other? The Thrill of It is filled with hot steamy scenes that will leave your libido ready to explode!!

If you have any preconceived ideas of what Lauren Blakely’s books are going to be like, you can drop kick them out the window now and prepare yourself for something unique and edgy because this isn’t a bubble-gum, happy-go-lucky, everyone-loves-each-other-lets-make-babies type of novel.  Lauren has created a dramatic, angst-ridden story that will keep you on the edge of your seat from start to finish.  She spoon feeds us details in a deliciously slow pace, giving us just enough to keep the reader wondering where it’s going.   Fair warning, you won’t be able to put down The Thrill of It once you’ve started.  It’s one of those “OMG I have to know what happens next!” types of books!  It totally sucked me in and left me with in physical discomfort.  The burning ache in my chest just wouldn’t quit. At one point, I could have sworn that Lauren was trying to break my brain with some of the screwed up stuff Harley is subjected to. Trey made my tummy flip-flop in that “holy crap he’s sexy but flawed and I don’t even care” kind of way.  Harley made me want to hug her and tell her that her mother is a complete whack job and she needs to run far, far away from that disgusting excuse of a parent.  I love a first person dual-POV story and Lauren gave us enough from both Harley and Trey that I felt connected and invested in both these characters equally.  Harley and Trey are both deeply scarred individuals from childhood traumas, leading them both to a life of addiction to love and sex. When I first read the book blurb for The Thrill of It, I wondered how Lauren was going to pull off a virgin call girl.  She not only pulls it off, she does it in a fantastically believable way.  I never once doubted that Harley was really capable of being this virgin call girl.  Harley made me feel like she was void inside, like everything her mother had ever done to her had just gutted out her soul and she was this walking, talking puppet trying to find her way back to being human again.  Thinking power and pseudo-sex were the answer, she finds herself being paid for sex which gives her a sense of being in charge, something she’s never had before.  Harley’s mother has got to be one of the worst book characters ever imagined.  To say I disliked her is an understatement; I wanted to drop kick her across a room and then smack her a few times more just to be sure she knew how I felt about her selfish ass. Just like Harley, Trey has been damaged by his parents.  But in his case, I actually felt some sympathy for Trey’s parents; their situation had to be so difficult to bear.  His parents were suffering with such pain, but they dealt with their grief in a completely dysfunctional way, traumatizing Trey and basically leaving a kid to deal with emotions that even adults would have a hard time coming to grips with.  They were so cold and shut off, it’s no wonder Trey sought solace with women.  Womanizing aside, Trey is my favorite kind of leading male, hot and tattooed!  He uses his art to express his pain, and to never forget what his family is trying to sweep under the rug. Harley and Trey make some horrible decisions as they try to maneuver through their newfound relationship.  I appreciated that Lauren let these two characters find each other in their own time, not pushing any kind of “insta-love” on them that would make the story lose its uniqueness.  Since this is a dual POV story, we get to watch Harley and Trey work through their pain and insecurities, trying to become whole again, for themselves and each other.  One of my favorite parts of this story is the “Memoirs of a Teenage Sex Addict…” entries we get throughout the story.  They were so intriguing and I would love Lauren to make a book of just those because they were brilliant and I would read them in a heartbeat!  The Thrill of It also contains one of the best blow job scenes I’ve ever read.  I can’t say anymore than that, but trust me, it’s not one you’ll ever forget! So basically, what I’m saying is that I love this book, I need the next one like yesterday, and Lauren gets a huge 5 stars from me!

Lauren Blakely is one of my absolute favorites. She consistently writes a feel-good love story, with likeable characters and HEAs. This story is something completely new and different for her, though, and she blows it out of the water. Tackling tough subject matter, with flawed and broken people that find their way to redemption in each other, 'The Thrill of It' is amazing. I was rooting for Harley and Trey from page 1, and absolutely could not put it down. I don't want to give away the story, but I cannot emphasize enough how truly wonderfully Lauren has written every character, and how invested I was from the beginning. This is the first book in a two-book series, and the ending left me feeling, 'What?! This can't be the end. I want the next book NOW!' I recommend 'The Thrill of It' without hesitation, and commend Lauren for giving us another book that is simply amazing.

Wow...where to start?? This is a wonderfully written story that will keep you turning the page. It is however, different from Lauren Blakely's prior books. Not different bad....just different. The characters are dark, troubled, and raw. The book evokes all sorts of emotions (as every good book should). The books main characters, Trey and Harley, are two very troubled souls who are trying to face their demons and heal themselves one day at a time. Their story is not one you want to miss. I recommend this read for everyone.

This was a great series! I read all 3 books, and they were each really good. I loved that the story continued through their relationship. A lot of times stories end as soon as the couple gets together as a couple, but in this series you get to see hardships they go through as well as continuous chemistry between the characters. They were sweet and sexy and yet real all at the same time. Loved it!

I read the start of us and liked it but when i found out this book is a serial book with a cliffhanger ending i refuse to buy it. Come on people stop buying these incomplete books . They are ripping us off. I dont care how good they are i will not be buying. No wonder this author has to give so many books away for review another way they use to screw us!!!!!!!!!

WOW! I'll be honest, I was a little hesitant at this one. But then I remembered that Lauren hasn't steered me wrong yet. So, I jumped in with both feet and am so glad I did! I read this one first and The Start of Us second. It was the way to go! And she left us with the biggest cliffhanger ever! Can't wait to continue Harley & Trey's story in January!!! Great job, Lauren!!!

This book was absolutely amazing and I could not put it down!  It is absolutely a departure from the books I usually read by Lauren Blakely, but incredible nonetheless.  Trey and Harely were so well developed and had such chemistry, that you cannot help but root for them, no matter what their flaws may be.  I cannot wait to see the next installment in this story!

I absolutely LOVED this story! I couldn't put it down once I started it! The only problem that I had with this story was that it ended too soon. Plus it ended with a cliffhanger. I was a little confused at the beginning because the story switched back and forth between the two main characters Harley and Trey. I loved the story of Harley and Trey. They aren't perfect but flawed in their own ways. I was surprised with the twists and turns that occurred in the story. Every time that I thought the story was going to turn in one way the story twisted in another way. I loved that Lauren shows us, the readers all of the dark secrets that Trey and Harley have and how they work through them on their own and with the help of each other. The Thrill of It is a definite MUST read that everyone should have on their book shelves or kindle. :)

I am a HUGE fan of Lauren Blakely and when I got the chance to read the ARC of The Thrill of It, I was so excited! This book was so unlike her other novels, but in a nice way. It is darker, edgier, and still has that great “Steam” that her novels are known for. The characters (Trey & Harley) were damaged and had to find themselves before they could come together. The storyline was so different and refreshing. I loved every single moment of the book and could not put it down. I highly recommend! I am so excited that this is a series because I cannot get enough! The series is called “No Regrets” and the next book is Every Second With You (No Regrets #2 – expected March 2014) and there is also a novella The Start of Us (No Regrets #0.5) coming out sometime soon.

I'm a sex addict and a virgin. I know everything about sex and I've never done it, though I came close last night. Now with an opening line like that, this story intrigued me and pulled me in from the first page, a story about two perfectly damaged people who are struggling to overcome their own addictions from their very sad and troubled pasts. Now we are first introduced to Harley, who you quickly learn has an alta ego called Layla, who is a, wait for it......a call girl who is a virgin!! Confused? Yep, I was!! Harley has had a very exposed and dysfunctional upbringing , which has left her addicted to sex and love but in Harley's eyes it all just a game, RIGHT?? It's hard to stay away from the fix. Because the fix feels good. The fix takes away the pain. The fix mends the hole in the heart. Harley doesn't know that 1 tattoo and 1 night with a tattooist will change her life for ever! In walks the ever so sexy, tattooed Trey!! This is when desire and need ignite within Harley, and she runs with these feelings as she thinks to herself this is just one night, hell she's not going to ever see this man again!! How wrong could she be...... “The guy from last night who inked my shoulder, and kissed my body, and who gave me something I’ve never felt before – touch without agenda. A true and real want. He didn’t want anything more from me than me. It was such a foreign feeling, but such a wondrous one.” Ohhhh my then there's Trey!! Sorry while I take a minute to sigh, swoon and fan myself.......Trey is fighting his own demons and addictions, but in different ways and, for different reasons. Trey’s upbringing and experiences have brought him to the same path that Harley is on, and their end goals are the same, which is to fight and overcome their addictions. This is then the challenge for both Trey and Harley. Can they overcome, accept and let go of the past and the pain, find the strength on their own? Or will they rely on each other for the strength they need to keep themselves in recovery, while trying to fight for their true feeling for each other?!! "With Trey, a tattoo is never just a tattoo. It's a symbol, it's a message, it's the way he expresses the things he won't say." Now there was another character I had a soft spot for, I loved him!! But I can see he may be a bit like marmite to some readers, you will have to make your own mind up!! Cam, who was Harley's, or should I say Layla's pimp?, he has a big demanding presence, but underneath he is caring and soft. Even though his path for Layla is not the direction you want her character to go in, you cannot help thinking in his eyes he really cares and wants the best for her, however dysfunctional it seems. I sure hope we see more of Cam in the sequel!! PLLEEAASSSEE!!! There are so many favourite quotes in this book, that made me sigh, swoon and ugly cry, I cannot list them all or I will just have to copy the whole book on my review! Here are just 2 that I read and had to stop reading to compose myself and reach for my tissue!! "Trey Westin, when I walked into No Regrets more than six months ago, I had no idea that I was getting a whole lot more than a tattoo. That I was getting you, and a place to belong. Because I belong to us. She is all I will ever want on this earth, and I have to make sure she knows without a shadow of a doubt that we might be damaged, but we are perfectly damaged together. Most of all you belong to the ugly beautiful. You belong to this messy, crazy, brave and honest love ." Can I say this book absolutely consumed and captivated me from the very first page, I found myself with my kindle in my hand reading while I was cooking, washing and cleaning!! Lauren Blakely's style of writing flows so beautifully, and her word choices so perfect. The story of Harley and Trey is going to stay with me forever. This is the first book I have read of Lauren's it will definitely wont be the last!! Thanks Lauren Blakely I now have an addiction to your books, but I refuse to go to any help group to give it up!!

ARC provided by author for honest review 4.5 Huge Stars This book is a little different than other Lauren Blakely books, it’s darker, grittier but if you have read her books before you can still tell that it is her. Harley is a nineteen year old virgin call girl called Layla. After her secret life is discovered, she is blackmailed into writing her memoirs and is forced to go to group support for sex and love addicts. Harley agrees to the terms of the blackmail to keep her mother from finding out her secret. The night before her first meeting she decides to get a tattoo to remember who she is and there she meets the sexy and damaged Trey. They share a night together thinking they will never see the other one again. That is until Trey walks into the same group meeting. My Thoughts: I mostly liked Harley. She was sarcastic but caring, especially towards Trey. She is jaded about life, but once you hear her story and meet her mother you understand. Her mother was a piece of work and Harley really didn’t see it so I wanted to shake her a few times because of it. “I’d never kissed, I’d never been kissed, but somehow I was a natural. I was all instinct. Later, when we were home, my mom asked me how it went. … Then she gave me kissing tips for the next time. A lesson in seduction from my mother.” That is just one example of how her mother operates. Harley doesn’t see anything wrong with her mother’s behavior and it drives Trey insane. Trey, what can you say about a guy like Trey. He is good guy with secrets. He has multiple tattoos and as Harley says, “With Trey, a tattoo is never just a tattoo. It’s a symbol, it’s a message, it’s the way he expresses the things he won’t say. A tattoo is a cry for help.” He is very protective of Harley and wants to help her with her problems and in turn she is protective of him. He doesn’t deny that he has problems of his own, but he knows his demons and isn’t ready to completely face them yet. Throughout the book you can see that Harley and Trey have feelings for each other, but they won’t do anything about them because they are told at their first meeting that they should abstain for the first year. Trey tries to keep Harley from going back to Layla and back to Cam (her pimp). Cam is super protective of Layla and loves her in his own way, which is not what I think of when I hear pimp. Harley tries to be there for Trey, not realizing that just by being with her that he doesn’t need to resort to his old ways of coping with life. Since they are “just friends” the first three-quarters of the book are so full of sexual tension, it is almost ridiculous. “Holy sexual tension, Batman” kept popping in my head while reading it. Overall, I really enjoyed the book and had a hard time putting it down, it was a quick read for me, only took an afternoon. Ms. Lauren writes characters that are complex and whether you loved them or hated them, you remembered them. I am more than ready for The Start of Us (the story of the first night they met) and Every Second with You , the conclusion to Harley and Trey’s story.

ARC received in exchange for an honest review.... Let me just say....... It is different to the usual Lauren, it is  more edgy, grittier, but not widely different that you won't recognise her and  won't love it if you love her other books. There are just as many sweet moments that melted my twisted heart!  ;-)  Trey & Harley, met each other when Harley went for a Tattoo, spending an evening together, they meet again, neither expecting ever  to see each other at a meeting of SLAA When I was going into The Thrill Of It, I was expecting Trey to be the more F*cked up character, full of anger maybe, attitude, but he was  unexpected. He actually makes me teary now thinking about him as he is so emotionally connected to Harley, he got deep under her skin like the roots of a tree .....yet he couldn't express his feelings, and she couldn't express hers....so they held back. Neither wanting to break the others recovery.  This leads to Harley thinking what else....who is there for her, the one person who has always been there right. Cam, he may be a Pimp,  but he cared, rightly or wrongly. Layla (Harley's alter) was in control. Layla set the rules and i think Layla was in control of Cam's heart  too, if she had just wanted to stay at his house i think he would have said yes, i think he saw her as a Daughter, if he knew the extent to  what she had been through i think he would have done damage! But Harley needed Layla, she needed to exorcise these demons that  Barb had created from an early age, you can't hear and see these things going on around you and not grow up unaffected. I guess, she was affected, i mean to be addicted to Love & Sex yet be still be so in-experienced, throws questions in itself. Trey is so patient, so caring, she thinks he won't want her as he knows everything, she thinks she is damaged, tainted spoilt goods even though she is a Virgin.  But she still craves that old life, she still craves her Cam.....and will she be able to keep away for her old life? Now back to Cam, you will Love or hate him, think of him what you will, now me...I love him, I think he is a big softie underneath and i am really looking forward to the sequel just to hope and pray that Cam gets some more ink time! and some kicking of Ass time! please Lauren.  There are other forces at play, blackmail, which involves Harley being forced to write Memoirs of her life... friendship, and this love story that is born out of a really gritty place.  I am not going to say anymore, other than this book is something else, it had me in tears on many occasion, silent little tears falling out  of my eyes. I had many quotes as my fav, far far too many to mention and i am already reading it again.   I am doing a blog tour, there are many of my fav quotes on there....will have to add an extra page! I Shouted, laughed, screamed, cried, even wanted to Spit at one character. Lauren has taken a nail file to the usual style you may  know her for and given it a damn fine going over to rough the edges.   You are going to remember this one! Love or hate some of the Characters, some still make my frigging skin crawl.  -------------------------------------- Q: Is there a  cliffhanger? A: There is a second book! But, their story does come together in a happy ending, they were always destined to be in each other's lives no matter what happens......they were so connected..... But.....there is a shock at the end, a little twist that opens up for the second book and it floored me, it just makes you excited for the next chapter of their lives which the next book explores. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.....
