It all started with a mysterious letter left at a tiny bookstore for authors Tony DiTerlizzi and Holly Black. Its closing lines: “We just want people to know about this. The stuff that has happened to us could happen to anyone.” Little could they imagine the remarkable adventure that awaited them as they followed Jared, Simon, and Mallory Grace and a strange old book into a world filled with elves, goblins, dwarves, trolls, and a fantastical menagerie of other creatures. The oddest part is in entering that world, they didn’t leave this one!

Five captivating books!
One thrilling adventure!

This wasn't bad. It had a lot of stuff in that the movie didn't, and some things happened differently. The movie was a lot more rushed. The books takes place over a much longer period of time. There was no barrier around the house in the books, it seemed.Mark Hamill did a good job of narration.I liked the introduction to the books.

Loved these books. Really liked the voice actor as well. I wish there were more than five books because I really loved the characters in this juvenile fiction series. I can't wait to see the movie now. :)

I loved reading these with my son. They are delightful and innocent. The illustrations are wonderful. When we saw the film we felt rather let down though - it was boring and lack lustre - it didn't do any justice to the actual books themselves.

This series is a great starter for readers not familiar with series. Its short and very pulling. the characters are each unique and all have their own special role. The creatures in it are awesome and exhilarating, its fun to look forward to what monster you will see next. The story never drags on and the series leave you wanting more.the re-reading value is great and this series is perfect for children to keep is their library.

The Spiderwick Chronicles has 3 main characters. First, there is Jared,a small boy who always gets into trouble. Next, there is Simon, Jared's twin brother who is really smart and loves animals. Finally, there is Mallory, Jared and Simon's older sister, who likes to fence and finds her brothers very annoying.
The main plot of this story involves magical creatures who are seeking the field guide. The field guide is a book that contains information about the magical world around them. Also, they have to figure out about the different creatures and what they do. One by one they were captured by different things. Simon was captured by goblins and then Mallory was captured by elves who want to keep her there as a prisoner. Luckilly, they escape using clever thinking and quick actions.
Time and place isn't specific in this book, but I'm pretty certain that it is set in the present. This story takes place in a make-believe world, usually outside in the woods.
The theme of this story was about staying and working together. When one of their members was in trouble, the rest came together to help bring them safely back.
Connecting to this book was very easy. I have read many other books that contain magical things and creatures because I find them very interesting. Several of the characters in this story had to figure out riddles in order to save someone else. I really enjoy doing riddles and puzzles.
I loved this book and I would recommend it to anybody who likes fantasy. It was so exciting! It was hard to put down.
