I'm, by no means, an expert but I think this book is great. I've only been playing guitar for 6 or 7 weeks and know very little about reading music, but there are a couple of songs I can play in this book without too much struggle. I will have to learn additional cords to advance to the remaining songs. I bought this because its a Hal Leonard Corp. book and they have such great beginner material but I wouldn't classify this as a beginner book. It is, however, a great book to challenge yourself with even if you are a beginner. If you are looking for tabs, this is not the book for you, unless you are comfortable making tab sheets for yourself. I don't mind looking through my little cord reference guide, so it is actually helpful to me if I have to figure out the cords. This isn't written with tablature either but I can still finger pick, if I choose to, by just reading the notes. As far as more advanced guitar or piano players, I would assume I could safely say that this is a great book with a variety of fun, family type songs that kids love and they aren't terribly hard to play.
