This was the twelfth Scarlet Pimpernel novel written, however, it is thirteenth if read chronologically. It should be read after SIR PERCY HITS BACK and before THE TRIUMPH OF THE SCARLET PIMPERNEL. This collection of unrelated short stories contains the usual nail-biting adventures of Sir Percy and the gallant League of the Scarlet Pimpernel as they travel throughout France saving the aristocrats from death by guillotine. The last story, however, is sort of a prequel about the early days of the League.
