Hasek masterfully portrays the absurdities of Communist ideology. The well-meaning Comissar can double speak with the best of them. Both his safety and that of the entire region depend on his bluster and unique interpretation of the Politburo's decrees. It helps to know a bit about Russian and Soviet history. No college degrees required, though. If you were alive in the cold war, you can figure it out. If you weren't, you'll enjoy the silliness and characters' twisted logic. Good stuff.
