The first exciting novel in a brand-new series from New York Times bestselling author C. C. Hunter!

Her dad’s job is with the dead . . . and he’s bringing his work home with him.

Once again, seventeen-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad’s career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she’s a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father’s alcoholism, she’s got enough problems of her own.

But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who darkens Riley’s door. The young woman’s death wasn’t the accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape becoming the killer’s next victim, Riley knows she’ll have to help Hayden move on too, but what if she can’t let him go?

I was a little nervous reading this new series because I loved Shadow Falls so much and was sad to see them go. But since I love CC Hunter's writing I gave it a shot and loved it. I think you are able to relate to the main character because she is a normal girl dealing with, for the most part, issues that people can relate too.

A quick, easy read. The characters are real and the author draws you in with her casual writing style.

I was so excited to read this book, because it's by C.C. Hunter and because it sounded interesting, but I'm even more excited to read the second book! Thank you for another amazing book and an exciting new series to look forward to. This book is totally worth the buy and I was happy to go through the emotional rollercoaster with the main character Riley! I will recommend this book to all of my fellow book loving friends.

I love the way C.C. Hunter writes she is an amazing author and can always make you laugh and cry in the same chapter. I love that about her, all her books are somewhat of a tearjerker but they always have something funny in them. In this book 17 year old Riley is the new girl in school. Her father is a mortician and his work is following her home because she can see and speak to the dead. She helps them cross on to the afterlife. But then she meets Hayden and he's not like the other ghosts though she doesn't know why. I don't want to give too much away and spill it for someone who hasn't read the book yet. The author leaves us with a major cliff hanger at the end though making us ask "what happens now with Hayden?" I highly recommend this first book in the Mortician's daughter series it is a really great read and I highly enjoyed it.

A great book! Couldn't wait to get back to it after I had to put it down ? The stories behind each of the characters help make it even more interesting!

Good story. Characters are well developed and realistic. I would have given it 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that it is a cliffhanger. I prefer to know that in advance.

I absolutely enjoyed reading In Another Life and This Heart of Mine by C.C. Hunter. They’re both really fascinating and delightfully emotional contemporary stories that made me smile, laugh, swoon, cry, and feel. I haven’t read any of her paranormal romances before this, but I can honestly say that Hunter’s writing is utterly addictive and I am obssessed! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and just cannot get enough. I love paranormal and supernatural stories, but haven’t read too many about ghosts. I’m usually into vampire books, but One Foot in the Grave is surprisingly really GOOD and I think I have a new favorite series. This book immediately had me hooked. It’s spooky, exciting, suspenseful, sometimes funny and also affecting. I loved the mystery part and reading about Riley helping the ghost, Abby, was absolutely thrilling. I was literally holding my breath sometimes and I could feel my heart beating so fast. The plot is definitely far from being dull and if I didn’t have to work and adult, I defintely would have finished this book in one sitting. I enjoyed the drama, the intrigue, the paranormal aspects, the romance, and the heartwarming moments. And even though I guessed right about part of the ending, I still liked the way the events played out and it made me even more excited for the next book (which I’m close to finishing as I’m doing this review). I really love the characters and Riley is just a fantastic heroine. My heart ached for her, but I was also really amazed by her strength and determination. She has such a big heart and willing to do the right thing even though it’s not always easy. Kelsey is awesome and I loved her fiesty personality. She’s also an amazing friend to Riley. Hayden has my heart now and forever and I’m totally rooting for him. He’s so charming and sweet and really cares about Riley. My prediction about him turned out to be correct and I’m honestly so happy about that. I liked the romance. Riley and Hayden are super adorable together. It’s a bit of a forbidden romance given Hayden’s situation, but… well, I can’t say too much and spoil it for you. They do have really amazing and swoony chemistry and I loved all their moments together. I’m seriously looking forward to see what happens next in their relationship. Hunter’s writing style and storytelling is truly amazing. I love the way I’m easily captivated by her stories and feel emotionally connected to her characters. I love being able to experience every wonderful and heartbreaking FEELS. This book is such an intriguing and engaging story and I had so much fun. One Foot in the Grace by by C.C. Hunter had me pleasantly engrossed until the very last page. I think it’s amazingly compelling, satisfyingly suspenseful, and emotionally touching. I enjoyed the writing, the mystery, the family drama, the humor, the light fluffy moments, the romance, and all the wonderful feels. I honestly can’t recommend this enough and I’m stopping my review here cause I’m dying to finish book 2 already. I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for a fair and honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Not what I expected, but very surprised. A page turner. Not a fan of promoting teens having sex.

A few grammatical errors, however the storyline was interesting.

Riley Smith is the new kid again because of her dad’s inability to hold a job due to drinking. If that wasn’t bad enough she is also the freak because of her father’s job, he’s a mortician. He also tends to bring home the ghosts from work. Riley can see them and helps them cross over. But the most recent ghost, Abby is very troubled. Everyone thinks her death was an accident but Riley knows that it was a murder. Riley has another ghost too, Hayden and he is not like any ghost she has visit her before. She can feel his touch and she cannot find an obituary. Riley decides to solve Abby’s murder and finds herself in the killer’s sights. Hayden is going to do everything he can to try and save her but together they might not be enough to keep Riley alive. Riley is a great kid and I feel so bad for her. Her home life is tough but school is not going to be any better. I loved how she could help the ghosts cross over but Abby and Hayden were really a challenge. I really hoped that should could help Abby without getting herself killed. The only thing that got me was the whole love triangle between the cheerleaders ex and the dead guy. We all know that I’m not a fan of then and know I just need to suck it up. Besides, the mystery made up for this. This is a great story. I have read only one other book by CC Hunter and loved that book too. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series, Two Feet Under. I think I will be checking out CC Hunter’s other books too. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

I absolutely love this book! After reading that last line, I was overwhelmed with emotions (good emotions that tug at your heartstrings) and now I can’t wait for the next story. The Mortician’s Daughter: One Foot in the Grave is geared towards young adults, but I honestly feel that anyone will be impacted by this wonderfully written book. C.C. Hunter covers many difficult topics throughout the book and she does so beautifully. I adore Riley and felt everything she went through like she is my best friend. I look forward to reading how much more trouble Riley is likely to get into and, gasp!, which boy will keep her heart in the end. Grief is a big focus for many characters throughout the story. No matter where you are in life the loss of someone close to you is going to affect you and how you live your life. Riley suffers from the loss of her mother when she was very young. She sees the struggle with grief in her father and friends and she cares so much to help them move on. With Riley’s ability to see and speak to the dead she is thrown into helping them pass over by doing favors for them and throughout these interactions she comes to realize that moving on is perfectly okay. The Mortician’s Daughter: One Foot in the Grave has everything I could want from a story; ghosts, drama, romance and a mystery! It delivered and then some. If you love paranormal romance suspense then this may be for you! I received a copy of this book and voluntarily reviewed it. All my opinions and thoughts are in no way influence by this. Final Rating: 5 Stars

The Mortician’s Daughter by C.C. Hunter was a great read. A great plot and sweet romance. Along with other characters that round out the story. I loved the plot. Riley is someone who can talk to and see spirits of people who have unfinished business. As a Mortician’s daughter this gives the spirits easy access to her as they often follow her father home. She might not like her dad’s job (My FIL has the same job ha, so my husband lived over a funeral home) but it gives her an opportunity to help people. I think as much as she thinks it’s embarrassing, she also sees the good of it. I like that a parent figure is very present and not only are we seeing Riley’s struggles with teenage life. We also get to see how she deals with being the daughter of a single dad. They have their ups and downs and disagreements but they also have a very strong bond. They are for the most part, a team. So when Riley has some concerns about her dad it’s hard for her to cope. She doesn’t have another parent to talk it over with or even to help her understand. I liked how this aspect of her life is shown. I don’t want to compare this series to Shadow Falls but some of the things I love about the Shadow Falls series continue on. I love that C.C. Hunter always has strong female friendships in her stories. The Mortician’s Daughter is no exception. Riley is starting at a new school and of course feeling lonely but she soon finds companionship in the friends she makes. One of them being Kelsey. They just click and understand each other easily. So I had my suspicions about Hayden from the get go and I wasn’t surprised that they turned out to be correct. I really like him though and the way he reacts with Riley. He understands a part of her that would not be easy for other people. Maybe with time they would but he doesn’t need evidence and there is no room for doubt with him. They fill a hole for each other. So of course another boy and of course he’s a good guy so I have no idea to root for! It’s not situation where she is leading anyone on. It’s not that kind of love triangle. It fits well with the story and the way the plot is going and it was like ahh this is so hard! I really enjoyed the story and that it had a mix of mystery and romance. While still dealing with teenage and family issues.

The Mortician’s Daughter: One Foot in the Grave by CC Hunter- Riley lost her mother when she was four years old. She lives with her father who is a mortician. She’s been attending her new school for less than two weeks and knows only a few people. They have moved twice lately due to her father losing his jobs. Riley is worrying about whether or not he’s an alcoholic or depressed. Riley gets visits from ghosts of the people her father has helped prepare for burial. The visitors need Riley’s help and until she helps them they keep visiting. I have a soft spot for Ford Mustangs and it’s cool that Riley has a Mustang and deals with the car’s maintenance and mechanical issues with her dad. The more I read, the more I realized how complicated Riley’s life is. I don’t want to give anything away, but the story just kept getting better and better. The dynamic characters are interesting and the suspense grows in intensity and I was on the edge of my seat as the story ended! I want the sequel now!!! 5 stars for pure supernatural entertainment! *I received a complimentary copy of this book for voluntary consideration.
