NY Times Bestselling Author E.G. Foley brews up a magical potion for fantasy readers of all ages!

Take a dash of Harry Potter and a splash of Oliver Twist, add a pinch of steampunk and a sprinkle of Victorian fairy lore, and what do you get? The Gryphon Chronicles! A rollicking fantasy adventure series that's as much fun for grownups as it is for kids.

Strange new talents...

Orphan Jake Reed is a smart, plucky twelve-year-old pickpocket living by his wits on the streets of Victorian London. Lately, he's started seeing ghosts—then discovers he can move solid objects with his mind! He has no idea why, but it seems to be the reason that a Sinister Gentleman and his minions now come hunting him. Suddenly on the run for his life, the rascally lad plunges headlong into a wondrous world full of magic and deadly peril. A world that holds the secret to the greatest question haunting him: who he really is. The answer leads the rough-and-tumble guttersnipe to a mysterious stranger's mad claim that he is the long-lost heir of an aristocratic family...with supernatural powers.

But with treacherous enemies closing in, it will take all of Jake's wily survival instincts and the help of his friends—both human and magical—to solve the mystery of what happened to his supposed parents, Lord and Lady Griffon, and defeat the foes who never wanted the Lost Heir of the great magical House of Griffon to be found.

"A wonderful novel in the same vein as Harry Potter, full of nonstop action, magical creatures, and the reality that was Queen Victoria's England." ~The Reading Café

About the Author

E.G. FOLEY is the pen name for a husband-and-wife writing team who live in Pennsylvania. They've been finishing each other’s sentences since they were teens, so it was only a matter of time till they were writing together, too.

Like his kid readers, “E” (Eric) can't sit still for too long! A bit of a renaissance man, he’s picked up hobbies from kenpo to carpentry to classical guitar over the years, and holds multiple degrees in math, science, and education. He treated patients as a chiropractor for nearly a decade, then switched careers to venture into the wild-and-woolly world of teaching middle school, where he was often voted favorite teacher. His students helped inspire him to start dreaming up great stories for kids, until he recently switched gears again and left teaching to become a full-time writer and author entrepreneur.

By contrast, “G” (Gael, aka Gaelen Foley) has had one dream all her life and has pursued it with maniacal intensity since the age of seventeen: writing fiction! After earning her Lit degree at SUNY Fredonia, she waited tables at night for nearly six years as a “starving artist” to keep her days free for honing her craft, until she finally got The Call in 1997. Today, with millions of her twenty-plus romances from Ballantine and HarperCollins sold in many languages worldwide, she’s been hitting bestseller lists regularly since 2001. Although she loves all her readers, young and old, she admits there’s just something magical about writing for children.

This book was FUN. It's an adventure with a feel-good message and a happy ending. Full of twists and turns, fast pace, it takes place in a fascinatiing world that blends victorian england with magic. My favorite part was the characters. The villains are hilarious, but Jake and Danie are characters you root for.I'm choosing this one for our summer bookclub at the library.

As a dad, I take notice when any book gets my 12 y.o. son to read. He was glued to this one and now the 9 y.o. wants to read it when he's done. I might even read it myself if I ever get my Nook back. It looks fun.

When life gives you lemons, do we always have to make lemonade? Jake had been on his own and struggling to stay alive for most of the twelve years of his life. He knew how to survive on the rough streets of London picking here and plotting there to keep his belly full and his body warm. When the unthinkable happens and it seems men have come to murder him staying alive becomes much harder than even he expected especially when he has no idea why anyone would do such a thing. The savior for Jake was Derek who it turned out was his Guardian, as it appears Jake is heir to an earldom and the castle that goes with it, along with other assets to protect. What is standing in between Jake and this inheritance is his uncle who it appears has enjoyed the riches that were so carefully gathered by Jake's parent for him. So keeping Jake away at any cost becomes his uncle's singular objective in life. These turn of events are not the only ones happening in Jake's life. It appears he has inherited his parent's telekinesis and of course the ability to see and talk to ghosts! Learning to use them properly is a task no one is sure Jake can handle but never underestimate the power of a determined boy. He finds family to encourage him, mentors to teach him, and strength that keeps him moving forward to take back what rightfully belongs to him. There are friends of the human and Fey variety assisting so let the adventure begin. Wonderful is the first word of many that come to mind when you have read this book. The first book in The Gryphon Chronicles is an introduction to the creative genius that is E.G. Foley. The author has captured both the hopeful side of life with all its magic mixed so flawlessly with moments of danger that is always around the corner. The anticipation of the next book in this series, Jake and the Giant is almost too much to bear.

Jake is a street kid and thief. He's always in trouble with the Constable. Now more than the Constable is after him. A murderer wants him but why? So does Guardian Stone; again, why? THE LOST HEIR is the beginning of The Gryphon Chronicles. Jake is an orphan but he discovers that his life has been a lie. He finds others who know of his powers which set him apart from his rookery friends. Dani O'Dell has been his conscience during his days in the rookery and she follows him when he leaves the rookery. Can she keep him safe? Can he keep her safe? Will she stay with Jake or will she be sent home? I enjoyed this book. The set-up for this series is good. The time and place are brought to life through the words. The characters are given to us. I wanted Jake to find his past but I did not want him to leave Dani behind. I knew who was good and bad and questionable (mostly.) I love the family that Jake finds when he leaves the rookery. Waldrick, the current Earl of Griffon, is a hiss-worthy villain as is his consort Fionnula. An interesting group of henchmen accompany them including Malwort the Spider (not sure about him.) Jake's companions are an eclectic group. Some outright heroes such as Guardian Derek Stone. Others have gifts and lessons that will aid Jake as he takes his rightful place in the world. Dani will still be his conscience. This series will be a fun read. I cannot wait for their next adventure nor the answer to the cliffhanger (will he or won't he?)

I love this book because it is a combonation of both my favorite authers. My first one is J.RR Tolkien. I like his books because he adds that spark of mysteriousness which E.G Foley uses in the lost heir. My second favorite author is C.S Lewis because also ises alot of description to make a vivid picture in your head on what is happening in the book. E.G Foley ises both traits so now I will like to include E.G Foley as one of my favorite authors

THE GRYPHON CHRONICES: THE LOST HEIR by E. G. Foley is an intriguing Fantasy/Fiction/Adventure set in Victorian London. # 1 in "The Gryphon Chronicles". What a beginning. A mixture of fantasy, almost like a steampunk and historical. Jake is a orphaned pickpocket on the streets of Victorian London, living by his wits. Jake has strange things happening to him, he can move objects, see ghosts, he is being hunted and is in deadly peril. What he doesn't know could just get him killed. He holds the secret of the long-lost heir of Griffon, a family with magical powers. Filled with adventure, mystery, magic, treachery and Jake must solve the mystery of what really happened to his beloved parents. But can he defeat his most deadly foe of all? With the help of his friends, Jake may just survive and live to find the answers. A fast paced, adventure filled story from beginning to end. An reader who enjoys fantasy, and mystery, young or old is sure to enjoy "The Lost Heir". I enjoyed this story. Well done, indeed! Well written with vivid descriptions, and engaging characters and what a sinister storyline. I can hardly wait to see what grand adventure Jake and his friends will find next. Move over Harry Potter, Jake in here! Received for an honest review from the author. RATING: 4 HEAT RATING: NONE REVIEWED BY: AprilR, Courtesy of My Book Addiction and More
