I gave this 2 stars only because they kept the original story intact. I have loved this story since I was a little kid, and my husband did too. Not only was the story lovely, with the good message that giving something that is precious to you to someone else is a noble thing to do, the illustrations were softly beautiful, nearly luminous. In this watered-down version, apparently in the popular rush to make everything PC, much of the magic and beauty of the original has been destroyed. So, so sad. I won't maintain it in my library. Thank God I only paid 99 cents for it- it wasn't worth any more.

This is a classic, for anyone who has faith this is an excellent book for not only children but adults. 60 years ago I had this book on a 45 record. It was read by Loretta Young and I still can hear her voice telling this beautiful story.

I got this book from my dad and is one of the few fond memories I have of him and enjoyed reading it. I lost the book I use to have, but I would love to owe it again.

This was my first book i ever recieved. I use to sleep with it on my pillow at night cuz i loved it so much. I still have it and read it over and over again a lot cuz it reminds me of my childhood and it is still a wonderful book to read to a child. It's message is heart warming.

I have read this book to my children every year at Christmas and each time I would cry when God accepts this small childs gift for Christ. It beautifully illustrates Christs Love and Grace through the eyes of a small child. My sons now 16, 19 and 20 yrs old still request the yearly reading of this precious book. They say it's because they want to see when I am going to cry but I know that it's because they cherish the memories.I have one battered copy that I will be reading to my Grandchildren some day.

I read this book many times to my girls. When they became adults I purchased a copy for each and wrote a note inside. As they have children, I purchase a copy for each grandchild and write a note to them inside. Hopefully this will continue for the future generations.

My grandmother bought this book with a companion record which narrated the entire story complete with sound effects when my sisters and I were children (in the mid-50's). We would listen to it time after time, for hours on end. It was stored with the decorations after the holiday. Year after year it wasn't officially Christmas until it was unpacked. I tried to find it when my own children were small but had no luck. I hope to start a tradition with my grandchildren. I have purchased several copies. I will read it to them every year as many times as they want to hear it and when they have children of their own, I will give them their own book and hope that the tradition continues.

My mother gave me this book 20 years ago. i came to this site to see if it was still available so I could buy one for my baby sister. I still cry every time I read it. I love that the humblest gift of all the angels is the most treasured by God. This is a great book for children of all ages and should be kept and passed down through generations.

This book has been part of my Christmas Eve tradition since I was a small child. I read it to my kids now and hope they will read it to their kids someday.
