Overview

Sneak Peek Here!

Identical twin sisters who couldn't look more alike...or live more differently.

Harper Frost is laid-back, easygoing. She doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. She likes a beer and a shot and wouldn't be caught dead wearing anything fashionable. She's inherited her father's rundown house on Martha's Vineyard, but she can't hold down a job, and her latest romantic disaster has the entire island talking.

Two beautiful islands only eleven miles apart.

Tabitha Frost is dignified, refined. She prefers a fine wine and has inherited the impeccable taste of her mother, the iconic fashion designer Eleanor Roxie-Frost. She's also inherited her mother's questionable parenting skills—Tabitha's teenage daughter, Ainsley, is in full rebellion mode—and a flailing fashion boutique on Nantucket in desperate need of a cash infusion.

One unforgettable summer that will change their lives forever.

After more than a decade apart, Harper and Tabitha switch islands—and lives—to save what's left of their splintered family. But the twins quickly discover that the secrets, lies, and gossip they thought they'd outrun can travel between islands just as easily as they can. Will Harper and Tabitha be able to bury the hatchet and end their sibling rivalry once and for all? Before the last beach picnic of the season, there will be enough old resentments, new loves, and cases of mistaken identity to make this the most talked-about summer that Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket have experienced in ages.

This Barnes & Noble exclusive edition includes a bonus short story—a prequel featuring the characters in THE IDENTICALS.

I at first found the end of this book too abrupt. Then I realized it was because I wanted it to go on. I loved all the characters. They are so believable. If you have never had the opportunity to visit Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket do do. Two specks of heaven on Earth. Than you Elin for this novel which had brought back such great summer memories.

I enjoyed this book so much, I'm sorry it's finished. Great characters, beautiful family story.

Great summer read, and now with this we get introduced to Martha! Elin touches 3 generations with this work and is spot on in exploring the angst that we deal with in each season of life. Wouldn't mind catching up with Harper and Tabitha again sometime!

Old school fans of Elin will be extremely disappointed. This is a very simple book with weak characters and a weaker plot. Lots of focus on money and material goods. No substance. Save your money and buy a good book or just buy a Danielle Steele, it's probably better. I was a devoted fan, but she's finally lost me.

Identical twin sisters Tabitha and Harper have been estranged for the past 14 years, when Tabitha's infant son died. Prior to that, when the girls were 17 their parents divorces. Harper went to live with their father, Billy on Martha's Vineyard and Tabitha went to live with their mother, Eleanor in Boston and on Nantucket. The other main character is Ainsley, Tabitha's precocious sixteen year old daughter. All three of these females are flawed and as the story unfolds we find out what happened in their past that contributed to who they are. When Harper and Tabitha were split apart they lived with very different parents. Eleanor was a debutante who became a famous designer. She is haughty, stuck up and a perfectionist. Billy was an electrician who was very good at his job. He is sociable and very laid back. The book opens with Billy dying of congenital heart failure which brings this family back together for his memorial service. This forces many decisions, life changes and confrontations that move the story along once you get past the introductions. When the story begins, the plot is a bit slow, but do not quit reading. Once I got into this story, I couldn't wait to see what would happen next. I also did not like the four main women in this story at the beginning. Again, as the story progressed the transformations they all had were wonderful and believable. There is some drama, some romance and wonderful settings that Elin Hildenbrand is know for. A great family drama that many readers will enjoy. The publisher generously provided me with a copy of this book via Netgalley.

The Identicals is a brilliantly crafted, complex, family drama. Eleanor Frost is a driven career woman. Her success, however, would come at a hefty price. Eleanor sacrificed the love of her family for her business. She divorced her husband, Billy, and insisted that one of their twin daughters live with her, and the other with Billy. Tabitha and Harper, were identical twins, and inseparable until their parent’s divorced. Tabitha stayed with Eleanor, much to her dismay, on Nantucket, and Harper went with Billy to Martha’s Vineyard. Eleanor had no idea at the time of the separation, just how much her selfish decision would cost her daughters. The twin’s relationship would suffer terribly, and they would not see one another, for any length of time, until Billy died, fourteen years later. Tabitha thought her sister had it easy. Harper didn’t have to contend with her mother’s impossible demands. She also didn’t have an out-of-control teenage daughter to raise. Harper had a perfect life, Tabitha thought. She did what she wanted to do and had the matching reputation to prove it. Harper didn’t care about anyone. But, that wasn’t true, Harper cared a great deal. She also carried a heavy load of guilt around with her every day. However, after their father died, Tabitha thought she had the perfect punishment for Harper. They would switch places for the summer. Instead of it being a punishment, however, it turned out to be a positive learning experience for both of them. And for Tabitha, the best thing that could ever happen to her. Love, forgiveness, and healing would touch many lives on those two Islands. Owning up to selfish mistakes was the first step in healing for the Frost family; the second was forgiveness. I loved this book. It’s a well-crafted, complex story, with realistically flawed characters. They all had lessons to learn, and by the end of the book, I knew every character intimately and felt deeply for them. The Identicals completely captivated me until the very last page. I highly recommend giving it a read. Thank you, Little, Brown and Company and NetGalley, for my advanced review copy.

EXCELLENT BEACH BOOK!! Beach books should always be easy, fast reads with a great location, and good story lines. You can just smell and taste the salty beach air. It is a perfect book for a laidback, fast read, great for an afternoon at your own favorite beach. It is a great story of love, hope, resiliency, and survival. It has great settings, Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard, with excellent character development that draws readers, using effortless plotting from the first page of this well-crafted novel. It keeps you wanting more and more until the very end. Elin Hilderbrand pens the best beach books.

Remember that cute little girl on Bewitched named Tabitha and how she would twitch her nose and be so adorable. Well, this Tabitha is nothing like that. This Tabitha is not a nice person. She's very snooty, condescending and selfish. And she dislikes her twin sister, Harper, a LOT! Harper and Tabitha are identical twins who were separated in their teens when their parents got divorced. Their mother decided she didn't want to be living alone and made the girls pick which one was going to live with her and who was going to live with their father. Yes, Tabitha got a lot of her personality from her uptight mother. Prior to this decision, the girls were best friends and did everything together. Fourteen years later, Tabitha has a 16 year old hellion (daughter) and has just kicked out her latest boyfriend. Tabitha lives in Nantucket and has been pampered most of her life without her sister. Harper lives in Martha's Vineyard and has worked every menial job you can think of to make ends meet. She's just lost her latest job and is facing what to do with their father's house after his recent death. This was a very good read with just about everything in it. I really felt for Harper and Tabitha definitely got on my nerves. However, I am glad of the time I got to spend with them and really enjoyed it. Definitely a great beach read! Thanks to Little, Brown and Company and Net Galley for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest, unbiased review.

Absorbing, enchanting, and absolutely irresistible! This story is set on the picturesque islands of Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard and gives us a glimpse into small-island living, complete with alluring beaches, endless sun, infinite gossip, and competitive rivalry. It is told from three different perspectives; Harper, a free spirit who is fun and kind but often impulsive and reckless; Tabitha, Harper’s mature, responsible, workaholic identical twin who struggles with underlying grief; and Ainsley, Tabitha’s teenage daughter who is popular, spoilt and in desperate need of some additional parenting. The writing is flawless. The plot is a perfect blend of heart, hope, angst, and drama. And the characterization is well-developed with a wonderful cast of characters, including three generations of strong, determined women who learn to embrace the future and let go of the past. This is, ultimately, a story about family dynamics, sister relationships, heartbreak, secrets, expectations, loss, grief, forgiveness, dreams, love, discovering one’s true self and the undeniable special bonds between twins. It is the perfect summer read. It sweeps you away to another place, gives you some tears, gives you some smiles and I absolutely adored it.
