This well-written mystery novel has immunology for its background. It's by no means an anti-vaccine screed, but from an American perspective it seems naive. Is the author using fiction to explore a real problem with current diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis vaccine, or is she just playing? If she's just playing, has she considered how she's feeding anti-vax madness? And how can she treat "German measles" (rubella) as a trivial matter? Children of moms who had this trivial disease in early pregnancy come out deaf, blind, deaf-blind, mentally impaired, or dead. Thank God it's recently been eradicated from the Americas. May the vaccine continue to keep it that way.
