Get the book that one reader called, "A rattling, high concept, wartime adventure--with a wonderfully quirky and incredibly brave hero-narrator."Telegram For Mrs. Mooney, is the first installment in a WWII mystery, adventure series. With only a telegram to guide him, Tommy Mooney leaves his New York home in search of his big brother Jack, a RAF Spitfire pilot missing in Nazi-occupied Europe. Joining him on the search is Daphne, Jack's 18-year-old British fiancée.Hope turns to foreboding as it begins to look as though the two are being deceived by the Gestapo-used in a plot to expose a Resistance network created to help downed airmen evade capture. What a treat! I really enjoyed this well-researched, well-written book. Some of it is non fiction and some is fiction. The main character is a 12-year-old boy. He's brave and caring, loyal and tenacious -- and portrayed so well as a typical young person of that age that some of the things he does, says, and thinks made me laugh out loud. This is a beautifully told tale!

I must say my curiosity was piqued because of the subject matter, my dad having been in WWII. I was in no way disappointed with the story, because I believed tenacious young Tommy could have found his way across the Atlantic, and then onto the continent. His character was believable to me but maybe better suited to a 14 year old than a 12 year old. Through all his adventures there is enough mystery and history to keep the reader engaged. His slang seems spot on for the 19th and it was almost like reading a classic movie script. I look forward to the next installments, which I will start now. An overall great read!

Set during World War II, the adventure begins in America and takes the reader through war torn England and Europe. This is the story of a twelve year-old boy on a mission to rescue his fighter pilot brother after the family receives a telegram informing them that his brother's plane was shot down and he is listed as missing. The fact meets fiction aspect leaves the reader with vivid descriptions of people, places and events. You will fall in love with the main character and cheer for him throughout his unforgetable journey. I loved watching the story unfold through a twelve years-old eyes! This is a stand alone book with a definate ending even though there are more books in the series. Well worth your time!
