A favorite childhood song brought to life by one of America's favorite illustrators, now in a sturdy board-book edition.

If you go down in the woods today

You're sure of a big surprise.

If you go down in the woods today

You'd better go in disguise;

For ev'ry Bear that ever there was

Will gather there for certain, because

Today's the day the Teddy Bears

Have their picnic.

"The Teddy Bears' Picnic" has been sung and loved by English-speaking children throughout the world ever since it was written. The intrigue conjured up by the teddy bears picnicking independently of their owners continues to capture the imaginations of children everywhere.

Michael Hague's illustrations are simultaneously panoramic and detailed. Against the backdrop of country landscapes, lovable teddies of all shapes and descriptions picnic and play.

Jimmy Kennedy wrote more than one thousand popular songs. He served as the president of the British Academy of Songwriters, won two Ivor Novello awards, and was awarded the Order of the British Empire. He died in 1984.

Michael Hague has illustrated some of the best-loved works of children's literature, including The Velveteen Rabbit, The Wizard of Oz, and The Wind in the Willows. He lives in Colorado Springs, Colorado, with his wife, Kathleen.

Sweet, detailed, brown-toned drawings in which a teddy bear owner, dressed in a bear suit, joins the teddy bears' picnic. Other fairy tale creatures (fairies, etc.) are present.

Reaction: I enjoyed these charming illustrations and the old familiar song lovingly brought me back to my childhood. The final couple of pages show the children unzipping their teddy bear costumes and getting ready for bed while Mom and Dad sip tea in the kitchen. A comforting read!

This is a cute story. It's a story told to inform children what their teddy bears do when the they're not around. The illustrations are great and help tell the story of a grand outdoor picnic in the woods. In the classroom setting this book can be used as a reason for students to bring in their favorite book and have their own picnic with classmates while the teacher reads the story.

Does not flow well and is a bit confusing. The pictures are all it has going for it.
