Campaigning has never been sweeter...

Prickly newspaperman's widow Phoebe Sparks has vowed never to marry again. Unfortunately, the election in Lively St. Lemeston is hotly contested, and the little town's charter gives Phoebe the right to make her husband a voter-if she had one.

The Honorable Nicholas Dymond has vowed never to get involved in his family's aristocratic politicking. But now his army career is over for good, his leg and his self-confidence both shattered in the war. Helping his little brother win an election could be just what the doctor ordered.

So Nick decamps to the country, under strict orders to marry Phoebe off to somebody before the polls open. He's intrigued by the lovely widow from the moment she shuts the door in his face.

Phoebe is determined not to be persuaded by the handsome earl's son, no matter how charming he is. But when disaster strikes her young sister, she is forced to consider selling her vote-and her hand-to the highest bidder.

As election intrigue thickens, bringing Phoebe and Nick face to face with their own deepest desires, they must decide which vows are worth keeping, and which must be broken...

Contains elections, confections, and a number of erections.

Lively St. Lemeston is certainly an appropriate name for the town in Sweet Disorder. There's always something going on in this seemingly sleepy English village! It's election time, and the vote is going to be close. Both sides seem to think that the only way to win is to convince young widow, Phoebe Sparks, to marry one of their supporters and make him a freeman eligible to vote. Will it be the owner of the sweet shop or the miller? The trouble is Phoebe would rather remain single and pursue her career as a children's author. However, circumstances soon make it necessary that she marry one of the men put forth by the Whigs or the Tories in order to gain help for her pregnant sister. Too bad the only man she's really attracted to is Nicholas Dymond, a former soldier back from Spain after being seriously injured and the brother of the Whig candidate. Phoebe and Nick have both been through tragedy and family betrayal. They bond over poetry and the need to confide their fears and secrets in someone. Nick is from the ruling class, while Phoebe is the daughter of a lawyer and now the poor widow of a printer. Everything seems against them, but it is very satisfying to see them falling in love despite it all. I am enjoying this series, which delves into the details of local politics, printing, the poets of the day, the Napoleonic Wars, and confectionery delights.

Such a fun, charming historical romance with a great lady lead. I really enjoyed it!

The book moved slow, I skipped whole pages. I feel bad, but just didn't hold my interest. Author assumed reader would know back ground. Wouldn't recommend.
