Overview

Introducing SQUISH—a new graphic novel series about a comic book-loving, twinkie-eating grade school AMOEBA trying to find his place in the world (or at least trying to make it through a school day). Inspired by his favorite comic book hero, SUPER AMOEBA!, Squish has to navigate school (bullies! detention! Principal Planaria!), family (dad: Hates to wear a tie. Secretly listens to heavy metal in the car), and friends (Peggy-rainbows! happy all the time! and Pod . . . who's . . . well, you just have to meet him). Can Squish save the world—and his friends—from the forces of evil lurking in the hallways? Find out in Squish: Super Amoeba—saving the world, one cell at a time!

This book is sooo funny because squish is an amoeba that is always struggling to do the right thing. My favorite part is fun science with Pod. Jack V. :)

... glad to see that there is a "boyish" addition to the Holm's hit Babymouse series, but Squish doesn't quite match up to the incomparable, Babymouse.

Slow to start but picks up midway for a cute and silly graphic novel about the lives of micro-organisms perfect for younger readers.

This new middle grade graphic novel series is by the creators of Babymouse. This one is for the boys though. Squish is a comic book loving, Twinkie eating amoeba. His best friends are Pod who is a science loving amoeba and Peggy who is a perpetually cheerful paramecium. They have to deal with the evil bully Lynwood who is a paramecium eating amoeba. Squish take guidance from his comic book hero Super Amoeba and has to take his courage in hand in order to "do the right thing." The illustrations done in a palette of swamp green, black and white and the cheerful drawings will appeal to young lovers of graphic novels.

Squish: Super Amoeba is a new graphic novel for kids by Jennifer and Matthew Holm, the creators of Babymouse. It's about an amoeba, doing what amoebas do: living with his mom and dad, going to school, reading comic books . . .Okay, so it's about an amoeba doing what kids do. There are a few science-y facts thrown in, but basically the amoeba angle is just for the gross factor, I think.I didn't really "get" this graphic novel, but I am definitely not the target audience. Perhaps third and fourth-grade boys will love this just as much as third and fourth-grade girls love Babymouse. I'd recommend it to them, but I think grown-ups are unlikely to enjoy it much.
