This inspiring, honest, uproarious collection of essays traces Sebastian Maniscalco’s career from playing boxing rings and bowling alleys to reaching the pinnacles of comedy success.
At twenty-four, Sebastian Maniscalco arrived in LA with a suitcase and saved up minimum wages. He knew no one and nothing about standup comedy, but he was determined to go for it anyway.
At forty-four, he’s on the Forbes’ list of highest earning comedians, sells out arenas, and has starred in four hit comedy specials including Why Would You Do That? on Showtime.
Stay Hungry tells the story of the twenty years in between. On the way from clueless rube to standup superstar, Seb was booed off stages; survived on tips and stolen food; got advice from mentors Andrew Dice Clay, Vince Vaughn, Tony Danza, and Jerry Seinfeld; fell in love; and stayed true to his Italian-immigrant roots. The one code that always kept him going: stay hungry, keep focused, never give up, and one day, you’ll make it.

I love his comedy and the book was amazing
This is a must-read for all Sebastian Maniscalco fans. As expected, there were plenty of laughs along the way. What was somewhat unexpected was the appreciation and respect I gained for Sebastian from learning of the tough climb he had along the road to success. His honesty and sincerity in sharing these stories is to be commended. I admire his tenacity, drive, and determination to “stay hungry” and never abandon his dream of being a comedian; despite the many downward spirals along the way. I particularly enjoyed his sharing stories about his love of family – and food! The only thing better than reading this book would be hearing Sebastian read it himself, so that will be my next purchase!
Great Read. I was a First Read Winner of this book, and I really liked it. Because I have watched Sebastian Maniscalco's comedy specials before and really liked them, I was interested to see in how he got started in the business. The book make me laugh out loud on numerous occasions but it also told about the real struggle of what it takes to make it in comedy. Very entertaining read and I can't wait for the next comedy special.
Once you pick this book up you don't want to put it down. Out of all the books I've read I never read one that made me miss my train stop multiple times! I laughed so much while reading this that people on the subway either inched away or glanced at the cover of the book to see what I was reading. Even my sister that hardly gets a joke was laughing! I once told her a joke in a supermarket and 5 aisles later she got it. It's definitely a must read, you will enjoy every bit of it!
