Overview

Before their military heroism in the Clone Wars, before their tragic battle on Mustafar, and many decades before their final confrontation on the Death Star, they were Master Obi-Wan Kenobi and his young Padawan, Anakin Skywalker. Now join them a few years into the "chosen one" Anakin's training. Teacher and student have grown closer over time, but it's been a difficult road. And things aren't about to get any easier. In fact, when they are called to a remote planet for assistance, the pair may be pushed to breaking point. As they find themselves stranded on a strange world of primitive technology and deadly natives, will they be able to save themselves? First they must learn who called for help...and why!

Charles Soule does a really good job of telling a tale from the early days of Anakin's Jedi training. He does a great job of showing how Obi-Wan didn't think he was doing well, even failing Anakin. We see Palpatine's continued machinations and there are as evil as one would expect. The off-world conflict is good but is somewhat watered down for a Star Wars tale. The art by Marco Checchetto was phenomenal. Overall, a very good tale that and Star Wars fan should appreciate.

This is the very first Star Wars comic book/graphic novel I've read and believe me, it is awesome! It fills in the gap between Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. And yes, the Prequel Trilogy may not be very good to most people but this book shines a new light on them, especially on pre-teen Anakin's padawan training. For the first time, we get a first-hand look at the close bond between masters and apprentice (see what I did there?). We also get introduced to a new society of people on a new planet, which is Star Wars book tradition after all. And the artwork is very well-done: The colors and lines are very clean and the characters are marvelously realistic. The story is filled with twists and turns and lots of the sci-fi action us Star Wars Fans know and love. If you're considering the Star Wars comic books/graphic novels, this is the book that should start your journey ahead! :)
