The story line was good and kept the reader guessing. However, the heroine was an extremely obnoxious brat, almost to the point of me wanting to stop reading the book. I'm glad I finished the book though, the writing was solid and story relatively fast-paced.

Truthfully, i did not enjoy this book. Corie was too unnecessarily shrewish. It seemed wordy. At by the end of the book they were in love. I was like where did that come from? I've read most of Miriam Minger's books that were great like Twin Passions. This book kept you from beginning to end.

A decent story. Sometimes hard to stay involved. Great storyline idea however the heroine was a bit too rude and obnoxious to the hero most of the time. Not sure how they managed to fall in love. How she treated everyone else made me wonder at times if she suffered from split personalities.

Mirium Minger had a difficult storyline. Lord Donvan had to marry in order to inherit the money he needed dasparately to find Paloma. And the way of stories, it was a woman who had no reason to marry him. I had no faith that Ms. Minger could find any tactic that could be real... but she does. I loved the character Corie. Sh was the oldest of the Vicar's four daughter. Since her mother's death she not only took care of her sisters, she took care of her father. Her best friend, Lindsay, was off to her first season in London. Although Lindsay asked Corie to go alung, she had too many responsibilities. She was the reason people were able to survive despite the poverty that shafowed everyone. My head spun with all of the burdens she bore. On top of it all, Lord Donovan just convinced her to fake marry him!!! And he found a very real strategy that was believable!!! To top all of this, someone is out to get Corie!!! I found some of the fight in Corie more of a fight to NOT fall in love. Ms. Minger kept the story plausible so although there were moments I wanted to "Gibbs-slap" her, I didn't give up on her. I recommend this for mature adults because it has explicit adult scenes to win over a stubborn redhead! This is not a cliffhanger!!!!

Secrets of Midnight (book1) by Miriam Minger 4 Star Historical Adventure and Romance! I enjoyed this exciting and fast paced adventure, packed with mystery, danger, and drama that kept me rooted to the end! The dialogue between Corisande and Donovan made me laugh, with her sharp tongue and shrewish sarcasm, and his seductive smile and cold sarcasm, they made quite the couple. Three quarters through the book I was ready to reach in to shake Corie from her continued baseless accusations towards Donovan! Their love story was nothing short of a miracle in the making, between the way they came together, the secrets they both had, and the danger Corie and her family found themselves in, it was amazing they came together for a happily ever after! The romance was sweet and steamy with a 3.5 flame rating. I recommend this book to everyone who loves a great adventure and romance.
