Yes,the rape scenes were frequent as the hero continued his assault to conquer the heroin. But I found the book to have a more realistic twist than your average sappy romance. I believe that the other reviewers were shocked at the way she was treated and missed the struggles between the heroin and hero. In the era which the book is written men over powered women. Slaves especially were treated as property as would a dog have been treated. All in all I found the story a good one and most of the character's believable.

Pick this up for free from a swap and just LOVED it ... fell in love from the first few pages ... not sure why but the romance mixed with violence mixed with love mixed with all the misunderstandings that seems to haunt our everyday lives ... it just captured me. I couldn't put it down. Read it the first night !

Dragged on and on really. Didn't care for characters, and the plot was dull and annoying.

Sometimes you need a break from the critical thinking reading and this had an easy story line although somewhat predicatable. I would recommend it ot someone who is looking for a quick easy read.

Some of Catherine's story leave me a little bit angry with the heroes, but I enjoyed this one. I wished there was a sequel that featured the two children though. It would make a great story to see how their relationship progressed as adults. Overall I recommend this book to any Catherine Coulter fan.
