Laced up by corset strings and bound by a forced engagement to a stuffy English lord named Hugh-David Winded, Devonny Stratton barely has room to breathe. More spirited than her nineteenth-century peers, Devonny tries to fight back. But is the Victorian Era too much for any woman?

"There are uses for Americans," said Miles.

"No," said Hugh-David, "one use. Money."

Devonny now understood all too well. She stormed out onto the porch. "Who do you think you are, you pitiful excuse for a man?" she shouted at Lord Winden.

Three mouths gaped open in shock above their starched collars.

"You can't even earn a living!" yelled Devonny. She felt herself getting taller and thinner, literally towering with rage.

The Englishmen got to their feet quickly, because one stood in the presence of a lady, even a screaming, misbehaving lady.

"You haven't asked me to marry you, Hugh-David Winden, and I wouldn't marry you if you were the last man on earth! I will marry a man with spunk, and you are horse manure!"

Devonny Stratton knew all about time travel thanks to the ill-fated appearance of Annie Lockwood in her brother's life. But, she never thought she would have an occasion to wish for such a power for her own benefit until her father promises her hand in marriage to an uptight English Lord she would rather have nothing to do with. When Annie's brother, Tod, appears to her in her greatest hour of need she believes him to be her knight in shining armor. Even though Tod never had a desire to be anyone¿s knight, he finds himself unable to forget the desperation of Devonny Stratton. In spite of himself, he decides to use Time to do the unthinkable and try to save the damsel in distress.Unlike the first two books of the series, I was a bit fonder of the heroine here. Despite her condescending attitude toward the ¿lower class¿, which can be forgiven by upbringing in her century, I thought Devonny was pretty likable and adapted well to the circumstances of the story. In this particular book there were some more surprising character developments than in the past ones. I certainly didn¿t expect as much from Winnie as we wound up getting. My favorite character, despite his very small part in the story, had to be the young Italian stoneworker, Gianni Annello. I was a bit disappointed that we never did find out why his name turned up in the future. Overall, I think this one was my favorite story yet of the series despite the absence of my previous favorite character.

It was OK! Made me happy I didn't live in the time period where women really didn't do anything or have a say in anything. We as women don't need men today to be happy or run our lives! I don't need somebody to save me like Devonny did in this book. Screw that mentality there.

Meh, I've read much better works by Caroline Cooney, but this is one of her worst. I hated this book. It was boring and had no point whatsoever. So prepare for major disappointment if you get this book.

I liked it but i wished she kept with the story of Annie and Strat or atleast start a new series were just Devonny and Todd are talked about.

I felt this book had nothing to do with anything the first two involved. Yes it was ok but I was disappointed. She shouldn't have tried to make a romance out of Tod and Devonney's relationship and since she did she should have made it more than it was. I felt she was trying to hard to out do herself and make this book as great as the first. My advice is leave it alone and don't get to technical it just doesn't work when you try too hard.

THis book seemed short to me even though it's not. Wished more could have happened between Devonny and Tod. I like the ending and don't at the same time. I still want to read "For All Times". Nice book.

I thought this was a great book, but I hated the end. Devonny so should have stayed with Tod, but it was still fantastic.

The book is good itself, but it's not what i'd bought it for. The original Annie and Strat are only alluded to in the form of an email and conversation. If your looking for the true next installment, go read 'For All Time'....

This is not a bad book. I read through the entire thing pretty quickly. However, because i absoultey loved Both Sides of Time and Out of Time, I found this book disappointing. I miss Annie and Strat! Also, the events of this third book are not as believable as those of the first two. I really hope Cooney writes a fourth book, and that it's about Annie and Strat! The whole thing with Devonny and Tod just doesn't work...it's too fake. The romance between Annie and Strat is what hooks people (at least it's what hooked me) and she needs to continue it.

Okay, while I wish the book had been about Strat and Devony in the beginning as the book went along I thought that it turned out okay. I won't tell the ending in case you haven't read this, but it is still a good book and I hope there will be more about Todd and Devony in the future. I know there has to be more about Strat and Annie. This is definitally a series for teen girls to read.

'A Prisoner of Time' ~ here is another fantastic book by Ms.Cooney! I read the first two and could not wait to read this one! I heard that it did not continue the story of Annie and Strat and was disapointed at first, but this book was too hard to be disappointed in! It is a really great book about Devonny and Tod and I would recommend it to anyone who likes to read! (or doesn't!)

This is not the best book I have read. If you have read Out of Time and Both Sides of time I think you would agree. What happened with Strat and Annie??? If she writes another sequel this would be a better book if not no way...

The title pretty much says it all. I love the wrting of Carolyn B. Cooney, but this novel was a huge disapointment. She totally ditched Annie and Strat, but I will forgive her if she writes a sequel that brings at least closure to their plagued and elusive romance. Also the ending was a big let down. I know this author is phenomeonal and can do a lot better. All I can hope for is another installment.
