Arguments are presented from both sides--young earth creationism vs old earth creationism. Old earth creationism basically utilizes naturalism and uniformitarianism of evolution and big bang to explain Genesis 1-11. Young earth arguments include first God's Word in Genesis as history. In addition, basic logic and science are used to young earth advantage. This is an excellent presentation on both views and a great introduction to young earth discussion.
The verdict is in: Young Universe Creationism (pronounced 'YUCk') will be 'raptured' out of the church 'soon' as the teenagers and college students of this generation (and future) will rightly divide the truth from fantasy. Science does not have an agenda; it cannot lie. What evidence you extract from the earth must parallel the story of Genesis. This is the case according to an Old Earth perspective. Be careful when you read any commentary when they mention rules of interpretation that are actually foreign to Hebrew and Greek scholars. Test all things. I'm not targeting YUCk's since I was one myself for many, many years. However, in college, I had to overlook a lot of convincing geological and astronomical evidence for an Old Earth as 'inferior' to my awesome and 'infallible special revelation' as a Young Earther. Please check out Reasons To Believe for further information. It's awesome.
