When her beloved father was assassinated, Lady Aramina swore revenge. The man responsible is well beyond her grasp, but his dangerously seductive heir, Leo Barrons, is fair game. When Mina obtains evidence proving that Leo is illegitimate, she has the means to destroy both the killer and his son, a man who troubles her heart and tempts her body.

A woman of mystery, Mina has long driven Leo crazy with glimpses of a fiery passion that lurks beneath her icy veneer. He knows that she's hiding something, and he's determined to unravel her layer by silken layer. He just doesn't expect the beautiful liar to be the key to overthrowing the corrupt prince consort or to saving his own carefully walled-off heart.

Reviewed by Suzanne and posted at Under The Covers Book Blog Finally. I feel like I have been in a drought, reading books that have barely quenched my thirst and Bec McMaster has led me to an oasis. In the fifth and final installment of the London Steampunk series, McMaster ups the stacks as she gives us Leo Barrons and Lady Aramina’s  romance, which is brimming with adventure and intrigue as we see all our characters, including the dastardly Prince Consort’s, plans comes to a climax. Bec McMaster never fails in penning a book that fully submerges you into her world, as the series has continued the detail has become richer and more complex, the ploys more intricate and far reaching and the characters both old and more recent additions have changed and grew. It was with a certain sense of sadness that I finished Of Silk and Steam, knowing it would be the last in the series and perhaps the last I would see of the characters that I have grown to love. One character that has intrigued me since the start of the series is Lady Aramina, thought to be the only female blue blood, and the only one who is a Duchess. We finally discover her true intentions and loyalties behind her ice-cold facade. We also see the aforementioned ice-cold facade melt under the heat of Barrons’ pursuit and frankly who could blame her? Leo and Mina had some sizzling chemistry both emotionally and physically, it pulled them together like magnets creating not only a sexy read but a passionate one. But, McMaster not only writes a great romance, but a fantastic story as well, the whole cast of characters come in to play as they take a role in the final confrontation. This book not only gives you pulse raising romance, but edge of your seat action as the whole of London joins the fight, creating a truely exciting read. Everything comes to a head in Of Silk and Steam it takes us on a journey full of twists, turns and heart break, you will need to read it to find out if it also ends in triumph! *ARC provided by publisher

I have been a Bec McMaster fan from the beginning and this book does not disappoint. You will get swept away with the hero and heroine and the feelings that they have for each other. I would recommend that you read her books in order to capture the characters that Bec has created. You can read this one on its own and still enjoy it immensely

I’ve admittedly got some catching up to do with this title, and it did take me some time to understand all of the connections to earlier events and characters in the story, but Aramina and her nemesis to lover Leo were delicious to follow as they unraveled their own connections and feelings.  McMaster starts this story with a bang: espionage, political intrigue, secrets, danger and adventure as both characters and readers are sorting out who did what.  Amina is angry and hurting, so Leo, the son and heir of the man who murdered her father is an apparently easy target. But, she has duties and obligations to the Queen, and her own desires may have to take a back seat. With the Prince Consort a bit of a bad egg, ok, a huge insane ball of evil, the question of his removal and the Queen’s continued leaning to the Humanist movement – political machinations are fraught with danger and duplicity.  Leo has a seat on the council of Dukes, but is not without his own secrets that could surely ruin him.  Illegitimate  and wholly committed to removing the Prince Consort from power, he needs Amina.  And, it doesn’t hurt that he’s always found her intriguing, but there is the pesky matter of the revenge Amina seeks.  But, when Leo meets Amina’s animosity and distrust with kindness and courtesy, asking her opinion and honestly appreciating her input, poor Amina is utterly confused. And little by little she starts to reveal bits about her history and her place in the larger picture.  During these small revelations, she finds an attraction to Leo  that she didn’t expect, and isn’t sure she wants to fight.  The development of a romantic relationship between the two was beautifully detailed and layered with emotion,  sensuality, heat and palpable attraction.  Add to that the political machinations, the secrets and twists and the story is a winner just for that.  McMaster takes it one step further in the world-building though: alternate Victorian London is replete with wonderful mechanical twists, a touch of magic and a city that is familiar but oh so new in all the best ways.  I can’t wait to take some time for ME – and read all of the earlier books in this series.  I would suggest if this is a  new series for you – that you do the same!  I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

With plenty of thrills, secrets, and lovely romance, Of Silk and Steam was a fantastic steampunk romance. It had engaging characters, plots and betrayals, and I really enjoyed all of it. Mina was a great heroine. She was very strong, clever, and loyal to those she cared about. It definitely wouldn't do to underestimate her. My only issue was that I got vaguely frustrated at how she was unable to let herself trust Leo. He had proven himself her match and earned her trust but she still held on to hesitance. I understood her reasoning, but I was also somewhat annoyed. But, other than that, I really liked her. Leo was wonderful. He knew and loved Mina exactly as she was and he strong and smart enough to be able to keep up with her. He was also sweet, compassionate, and just overall adorable. I really liked him as well. The romance was lovely. Mina and Leo were perfect together. They were definitely each other's match and one hell of a team when they worked together. And the chemistry between them was there from the start and definitely turned up the heat. The plot moved quickly and kept me hooked all the way through. There were plenty of thrills, secrets, and betrayals that kept me on the edge of my seat. I really liked the story and I thought the ending was perfect. Of Silk and Steam was a dark, thrilling, and very enjoyable steampunk romance. From start to finish, it was an excellent read. Romance lovers, this is a book you won't want to miss. *I received a complimentary copy from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Of Silk and Steam is a vividly written, high velocity steampunk adventure. Lady Aramina (Mina) is out for revenge for the death of her father and since she can’t take down the man responsible she is aiming for his son and heir, Leo Barrons. Leo Barrons is walking a tight rope between political machination to over throw the corrupt prince consort and keeping himself a playerin the Echelon he wishes to destroy. Leo is drawn to Mina like no other woman; he understands but can’t accept her disdain. When circumstances don’t follow their plans Leo and Mina find themselves on the run together. Mina is more than what she seems, for years she has been plotting with the queen to destroy her husband’s rule of tyranny and insanity. She never imagined finding an ally in her enemy. Can they trust each other enough to come together to take down the empire? Fabulous twist and turns fill this non-stop, action filled adventure. The plot has finally come to a rolling boil and is about to explode…for good or bad the war with the Echelon has come to a head. No faction of the rebels have enough power to take it on by themselves...their only hope is to join forces. Powerful writing brings life to the characters while McMaster’s imagination continues to thrill and captivate me throughout this series. Of Silk and Steam is a sexy and stunning steampunk novel.

This book was just amazing. We had gadgets and robots, enemies become lovers, intrigue, and an almost full scale war on the streets of London. I think that covers so many different types of books I like that I just couldn't help but fall in love with this one. Mina and Leo are quite the pair. From the very beginning you can see the interest between the two, but their families aren't fond of each other - so hands off!! In fact, Mina would love to see Leo's family fall. But that all gets pushed aside with the crazy prince consort goes - well - crazy. Then Mina and Leo are forced to work together and realize that there's nothing wrong with changing your mind and opinion on someone. I love how they came together when they really needed to and their relationship just grew from there. I also loved that Mina was a mastermind behind a pretty devious plot - I love a devious woman.  There really wasn't much I didn't like about the story. This one was a big win all around. *This book was received in exchange for an honest review*

Ahh, revenge. Lady Aramina is consumed with it and her preferred target is out of reach, blinded by her pain and fury, she goes for the next best thing, his illegitimate son, Leo Barrons. Is this Mina’s chance to take down two birds with one stone or will her heart be swayed by the handsome Leo? Will they somehow join forces against the corrupt political powerhouse that darkens their world? Both have hardened their hearts to romance, but their resistance is faltering in this game of love and war. Bec McMaster’s Of Silk and Steam is a little different, in a world that embraces the Steampunk Genre. Dare I say she has created a little extra steam with the back and forth tension that rises to volcanic proportions between Mina and Leo? Her world is filled with all the sights and sounds of an alternate history filled with amazing mechanicals, a touch of magic and, oh, the passion! They say keep your allies close and your enemies closer, and trust me, these two enemies have gotten very close. Filled with non-stop action, non-stop romance and non-stop intrigue, Ms. McMaster's attention to detail and style of writing will have you wishing for a time machine to go back and live in her world!
