This wonderful book, with its sophisticated yet straightforward style, is a superb introduction not only to a wonderful cat, Nicky, and to Jazz, but also to photographic and graphic arts. It inspires response -- singing, drawing, storytelling -- from children, too. Absolutely gorgeous and fun -- add the CD, too -- and you have a perfect way of amusing and teaching a child. 'Nicky the Jazz Cat' is one of our favorite gifts for new parents, and we hope there will be more books, toys & the like featuring Nicky and Jazz.
Nicky is a cat-- a fashionably all-black feline. In this book he's rhyming his way through encounters with several jazz greats. The text is fun, the book is beautiful, and the pictures are very, very cool. The Lena Horne shot is my favorite-- she is gazing elegantly down at Nicky. The author has had a long career of photographing jazz musicians, and the Nicky pictures are my favorite. If only I can keep the baby from drooling on the book until he's old enough to appreciate it!
