About the Author

Michael Arndt is an award-winning graphic designer turned author/illustrator. His passions for design, typography, and language as well as his expertise from thirty years of working in the design and packaging industries are immediately evident in the aesthetically striking books he lovingly creates. His philosophy about books is that they are physical objects that have the power to engage eyes, minds, hearts, and hands. Towards that end, his clever signature line of M books are not only elegantly simple, but also rich in thought and content. Simple, but never simplistic. Complex, but never complicated. His mission is to promote visual literacy by introducing readers, from birth onwards, to the fundamentals of visual learning: colors, shapes, letters, numbers, sizes, and positive and negative shapes. He feels that these skills are more important than ever in our current Information Age. He also believes that in this era of technology, we increasingly crave tactile objects and that those which will survive in physical form as artifacts will be those that are not only beautiful to behold, but also that need to be held in order to fully experience them. He believes that the best way to lay pathways of learning is through playful interaction that involves as many senses as possible. Michael is an ardent advocate for libraries and education. He speaks fluent Italian and has studied Spanish, French, and Japanese.
