Overview

Rihanna benefits from the knowing production work of Syndicated Rhythm Productions, aka Evan Rogers and Carl Sturken, who together produced a laundry list of contemporary teen pop sensations during the prior decade. What these guys do that's so irresistibly shrewd is synthesize Caribbean rhythms and beats with standard-issue urban dance-pop: Caribbean-inflected urban, if you will. So while a song like "Pon de Replay" is driven by booming dancehall/reggaeton-lite beats and a reggae vocal cadence (and title spelling), it's a simple and distinctly American, dance-pop song at its core. In other words, it's like a dancehall remix of Beyoncé that's not too dancehall. The best songs on Music of the Sun follow this appealing template, including the similarly catchy few songs that follow the aforementioned album-opening smash hit: "Here I Go Again," "If It's Lovin' That You Want," and "You Don't Love Me (No, No, No)."

When I heard her first single I didn't think that Rihanna was goning to have any talent but I did like the single a little bit so when her C.D. came out I checked it. Suprise Suprise she does have talent and she is very good at every different knid of music she does on the c.d. I really enjoyed this c.d.

this cd was really good i thought. its so surprising that rihanna is ONLY 17 years old and she sounds so mature. and for the most part, she's a pretty clean artist. she reminded me in some songs, especially "the last time" of a young beyonce. she's one to watch.

Rihanna I just have to give you props on this CD!!! I remember hearing Pon De Replay on the radio wondering who it is. I didn't care I would make up these dances to it and then I learned it was Rihanna. I didn't know who Rihanna was but I knew she had to be talented to be heard on the radio every 5 seconds. Once I heard the cd, I just love all the songs and them lyrics are just phenomenal. No dirty or triflant lyrics just straight clean like we whould be listening to. I hope you make more albums. My favorite song has to be "If It's Lovin That You Want" and the video is tight too.

Rihanna is soooo good, I love her new CD. She doesn't really have a unique voice, she sounds like JoJo, Ciara, and/or Beyonce. I still think the style of her music IS unique. Some of the songs sound "island-like". I've never heard anything like it, over all!!!

Rihanna is reallly good and I think that she has an outstanding voice. She's so new, and pretty, and Rihanna really stands out in the crowd. Her music is especially different, because most of her songs are hip hop, or R&B, but some of her music is island reggae and I can't wait til her next CD, A girl like me, comes out. I'll be the first one to get it!!
