Miss Julia warns Mr. Pickens that he better not break the heart of her late husband's mistress four months pregnant Hazel Marie. Pickens, married three times, swears they will marry. Hazel Marie's son Lloyd is elated with his new daddy while Miss Julia and her second husband Sam plan a bridal party though the bride is not invited as the hostess lies to her guests that Hazel Marie married in San Francisco a few months ago. Pastor Larry Ledbetter invites Sam and Julia to a marriage counseling seminar hosted by a Christian shrink Dr. Fred Fowler. Sam agreed, but Julia is panicked that Fred is the host. After her cheating first husband died, Fred was nice to lonely grieving Julia until they began kissing in the chapel; Ledbetter caught them. Fred blamed Julia. She fears Sam's reaction to her being labeled a loose woman. The bridal party is a success although home nursing helper Etta Mae Wiggins is late. Everyone accepts why Hazel Marie is not there as she had a doctor's appointment and that she and Mr. Pickens married. Soon afterward to get out of going to Fred's seminar Julia claims to be ill and bedridden; and Etta Mae calls Julia from jail asking for Binkie the lawyer. She was accused by her client Francie Pitts of knocking her out and stealing a bracelet. Miss Julia continues to dodge Fred while working on proving Etta Mae's innocence. Miss Julia is her usual flustered self managing to make a mountain out of a mole hill to the delight of her myriad of fans. As always, the support cast is strong as they enhance the heroine's fears and shenanigans while she also takes care of her friends and family. Although. Miss Julia's behavior re not telling Sam the truth lacks her usual ethical fortitude, readers will let that slide as her escapes make for a fine cozy. Harriet Klausner

Miss Julia Renews Her Vows by Ann B. Ross Hardcover Release Date April 6, 2010 This is the 11th book in the Miss Julia series and it's another wild ride for Miss Julia and her friends. First off they have to get Hazel Marie and Mr.Pickens wed ASAP because she is expecting twins and pass off a story of an earlier wedding, then an old "friendemy" of Julia's, Francie Pitts, returns to town after her 5th or 6th husband dies and accuses Julia's friend Etta Mae Wiggins of assault and robbery, and Julia's new husband Sam signs up for a class at the church for marriage counseling to rekindle their flames and the shrink running the class is someone from Julia's past. Julia pretends to be ill so she can miss the first class, but as things start to escalate with Francie, Miss Julia just has to get involved and get everything straightened out. The witty dialogue, the quirky characters are all back and this is another fine Miss Julia story. If you are a fan of this series you will be happy with this next edition. If you haven't read the series you should really start with book one Miss Julia Speaks Her Mind as each books builds from the one before. http://dollycas.blogspot.com/

Another wonderful and funny story about Miss Julia, her family and friends. This winter I introduced another friend to this zany and cleverly written series. My friend called me several times in tears, laughing about a an episode, event, or just the wonderful writing.

Miss Julia is one fictional character for whom I'll drop everything to read her latest adventures. Fans know about Miss Julia's back story, so I won't bother retelling it. In Miss Julia Renews Her Vows, our heroine has her hands full. She's getting Hazel Marie and J.D. Pickens married off just in time for their twins to arrive. She helps her friend Etta Mae Wiggins get out from under the suspicion that she caused injury to and stole from a woman she's been providing home-care services. And a bad penny -- once known as Francie Pitts -- returns to town to find husband #5. Or is is #6?But it's a marriage enrichment program at her church that has Miss Julia most worried. It seems she has "history" with the presenter, an unscrupulous charlatan who took advantage of a vulnerable Miss Julia years earlier. Why is Miss Julia's husband Sam so eager to attend the program? Could it be that he's feeling their marriage is getting stale and that they need to "stoke the embers?" Ann B. Ross is an author who always delivers what her fans expect. And even though the core of Miss Julia's personality hasn't changed much over the course of this series, in every book she becomes stronger, more confident and much more lovable. This book is no exception. Maybe it's Miss Julia's obvious vulnerability when it comes to her romantic life that makes her so endearing. Steel Magnolia though she may be, more and more she shows her soft side. I love this series!!!5/9/2010

Here's the latest in the long run of Miss Julia books. Hazel Marie has finally snagged Mr. Pickens for a husband, based on the fact that she is expecting twins that belong to him. They are out of the way on their honeymoon for most of the book after marrying in a quickie civil ceremony. Miss Julia manages to explain away the embarrassing details of the wedding with her usual aplomb. A bigger problem is how to deal with her own husband's desire to attend a marriage enrichment class being taught by someone with whom Miss Julia had a close encounter years ago. A faked illness by Miss Julia leads to other events and the hiring of a private duty nurse, the familiar Etta Mae Wiggins. She has lost her job after being accused of attacking a patient and stealing a valuable bracelet. Of course, Miss Julia will need to straighten out that mess, too. As usual, Miss Julia comes through. Read it and laugh!

Hazel Marie and J. D. Pickens are getting married, much to Miss Julia's relief. Since Hazel Marie is pregnant with twins, time is of the essence. While Miss Julia is trying to come up with a way to explain Hazel Marie's situation to everyone in Abbotsville, she gets a call from Etta Mae Wiggins. Etta Mae has been accused of assaulting, and stealing from, one of her home health care clients. At the same time, Miss Julia's husband, Sam, has told the pastor that they will help with a marriage counseling class at their church, which makes Miss Julia wonder if Sam is unhappy in their marriage.Miss Julia Renews Her Vows by Ann B. Ross is the eleventh book in the delightful Miss Julia series. Miss Julia is quite a character and I just love her! She is the epitome of the old-fashioned prim and proper Southern woman. She tries to present a tough facade, but everyone knows that, deep down inside, she's really a softie.Miss Julia has a great life - plenty of money, lots of friends and a husband who adores her, but like all the rest of us, she has self doubts. In this book, she has doubts about her marriage that cause her to come to all kinds of crazy conclusions which create misunderstandings that just made me nod my head and chuckle. If Miss Julia is nothing else, she's a faithful friend who's always ready to help out when someone is in trouble. When she discovers Etta Mae's being questioned by the police, she's determined to get to the bottom of things and solve the mystery. The Miss Julia books are just plain fun and they're a great break between heavier books! Miss Julia Renews Her Vows is a solid addition to the series and I really enjoyed it. It's not necessary to read the series in order, but I think it's better if you do, so you can follow the relationships of the characters. If you've enjoyed Miss Julia in the past, you won't want to miss this book!

This one was a little long in the tooth. I thought it could have been done in few pages. But I still enjoyed it. Wasn't my favorite of the series however. On to Book 12.

When it comes to someone who Miss Julia cares for, she stops for nothing to right the wrong. Whether getting rid of a so-called church psych.,, or heiping Etta Mae be free of false charges pressed against her. Read it you will enjoy.

This book may not be the best starting point for new readers to the Miss Julia series but it is a fun read. This pillar of her community juggles problems with the style of an seasoned southern belle and the slight of hand of a magician. The only concern this sexagenarian can't handle with aplomb is the question of why her husband of less than a year wants to attend marriage counseling classes that seem to be focused on a subject better left in the bedroom. As this question haunts her, she deftly spins a cover story for Hazel Marie's extremely premature twins on one hand while defending Etta Mae Wiggins against charges of assault and robbery with the other. I recommend that new readers go back to the beginning with Miss Julia Speaks Her Minds and hold on to your hat

Miss Julia is a matchmaker extraordinaire But she has a few secrets she wants to keep hidden from her new husband. Things that happened when she was a widow, before she met Sam. Etta Mae is being gossiped about by a client that many have bad memories of from her past. Hazel Marie and J.D. Pickens are off honeymooning while they wait for their twins to be born. then Dr. Fred Fowler blows into town to offer advice on "flaming the fires" of a happy marriage. Although he himself has never been married, he has lots of advice for others. He also has a secret that Julia is terrified he will spill, and she begins to think that her husband Sam is less than happy with their marital "fires". Lots of small town antics and suspicions ensue on the way to the final revelations. I love the small town atmosphere and thoroughly enjoyed this trip into Abbotsville!

Any fan of Miss Julia will of course love the latest book. It is not necessary to have read all of the Miss Julia series books to enjoy any one of them. It does help though in endearing yourself deeply with the characters as the story line grows. Miss Julia is one character that I am deeply sorry that a woman's network hasn't picked up for TV as men, women, & children I feel sure would or could enjoy Miss Julia and those she encounters in her life.
