Overview

Mary Louise Burrows is a fifteen-year-old girl who enjoys her life and school in the sleepy town of Beverly, where she lives with her mother and her beloved grandfather, Colonel James Weatherby, or "Gran'pa Jim". But one day Gran'pa Jim tells her that her mother and himself have to leave on urgent business. Mary Louise is left to live in her boarding school, where suddenly a federal officer comes to interrogate her, telling that her grandfather is a running criminal. With a police officer on her trail, Mary Louise takes refuge with her grandfather's friends, the Conants, and together with her new friend, Irene Macfarlane, she is determined to clear Gran'pa Jim's good name.

L. Frank Baum (1856-1919) is mostly known for his classic book "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and its many sequels. "Mary Louise" was first published in 1916, and is the first issue of "The Bluebird Books" series, which Baum started using the pseudonym Edith Van Dyne.
