A playboy with a painful past finds help he never expected to need, in the most unlikely of places, in this standalone, opposites-attract romance from USA Today bestseller Tess Thompson.

Real estate developer Kyle Hicks only has time for three things: his latest project, his very best friends, and his next no-strings-attached tryst. Struggling single mother Violet Ellis is just as busy. Between her son, her failing business, and her historical preservation work, there's never any time to catch her breath.

While Kyle's bringing progress to Cliffside Bay, Violet's fighting to protect the small town's increasingly rare charm. But for once they'll find themselves on the very same team when a brand new project that neither of them anticipated arrives.

As this unlikely pair quickly learns, working together will require trust and respect. And there just might be something else simmering under the surface of their once-acrimonious relationship -- something special that both of these former rivals are willing to fight for.

USA Today bestselling author Tess Thompson invites you into the world of Cliffside Bay to meet a group of five best friends, the women they love, and the stories that bring each couple together. Each book in the Cliffside Bay Series is intended to be read and enjoyed as a sweet standalone, but for maximum enjoyment read this binge-worthy series in order.

Good balance characters, romance, storyline etc. no wasted pages on intimate sexual encounters, Most of the time I skip these parts of a book as do many of my friends and family. Very enjoyable read

I happened across Tess in a group on Facebook and was selected to read her books in return for an honest review. The Cliffside Bay Series has already stolen my heart. Marred is the story of Kyle and Violet. Kyle, The womanizer of the Dogs, is not looking for a family. He has his friends, and he likes his lifestyle just as it is. When an unexpected "package" lands at his feet, Violet, his nemesis becomes the one person, he can turn to for help. Violet, is a single mother with her own demons. At first, they hate each other, but soon they find that the hatred and judgments fall away and turns to something else. This book was amazing. I'll be honest, through this series Kyle was my least favorite. He just seemed like a bit of a jerk to me. This story gave him a past, and a story and it made me fall in love with him as a character. Violet has had my heart from day one, and this story made me love her even more. This story showed that through all the pain, guilt, and mistakes people could grow and become what they never thought possible. This entire series has been heartwarming with hints of romance, pain, and family.

Finished in less than 24 hours. Couldn't wait to get it going. How two different but same people came to be each other's rock is amazing. I kept waiting for some bad thing to happen with Mel, but no, she was swept right out of the picture! Now, just have to wait two months for the next book is going to be hard. Another great read!

Each book in this series of standalone stories seems to get better and better. I'll be honest and admit that I wasn't sure I'd enjoy Kyle's story. He hasn't been my favorite in the past couple of books, mostly because he just hasn't been nice. I did like Violet and felt for her, especially as she started to open up more and more. With that in mind I went into this book with an open mind and was completely thrown off and intrigued from chapter 1. We see a side of Kyle that we've never seen before and we finally get to learn what made him the man he is today. He's broken and don't think he's repairable. But that all changes, and for the better. We also get a better understanding of Violet and what makes her tick. My heart was with her this whole time and I loved that not only did we get to know her better but we also got to see her finally happy, truly happy. There was only one thing I wasn't so sure about in this book and that was Mel. She asked to go to the bathroom and she was laid off and she was upset and then she comes strolling back happy as a clam? And then the next day Kyle's keys are missing? I think we missed something that, or at least I did. I wouldn't mind a better understanding (no not a Mel book as she was just weird, but a conclusion to her crazy). Either way, I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to Lance's story.

Kyle is a runner. Fear has kept him always on the move, never looking back. Trying to escape the painful shame of a past he had no control over. He's been running for far too long. Violet is a fighter. She's had her share of bad luck. In life and love, she can never get ahead. Until fate steps in to point her in the wrong direction at the right time. Kyle and Violet's story is an anthem of hope. Marred is a look at what courageous really means. Thompson stares down a past permeated with heartache and turns it into an inspiration. Marred is finding the strength to give of one's self, even when we don't know how. The emotions are brutally honest and heartbreakingly real.
