Just Roar And Bear It

Growing up on the tough Philly streets, Gwen O'Neill knows how to fend for herself. But what is she supposed to do with a nice, suburban Jersey boy who has a tendency to turn into a massive Grizzly? Despite his menacing growl and four-inch claws, Gwen finds Lachlan "Lock" MacRyrie cute and really sweet. He actually watches out for her, and unlike the rest of her out-of-control family, manages not to morbidly embarrass her. Too bad cats don't believe in forever.

At nearly seven feet tall, Lock is used to people responding to him in two ways: screaming or running away. Gwen--half lioness, half tigress, all kick-ass--does neither. She's sexy beyond belief and smart as hell, but she's so busy protecting her family and friends that she's forgetting about her own safety. Lock probably shouldn't get involved, but he can't simply walk away. Not when Gwen means absolutely everything to him.

I absolutely adore this book and series. Actually I have loved each and every one of this author's books! Shelly has such a wonderful/quirky/strange/off-the-wall sense of humor, I laughed enough that it brought the adult kids their room to check on me! It is one of the things I look forward to with her writing, the laughter (many times to the point of tears). Yes, they are all on my 'KEEP' shelf. Mr. Mittens & Paddington are wonderful together. Her characters are always so real. I want to go to one of the Karoke parties to meet them all. I can hardly wait for the next installment. How I wish you wonderful authors could write as fast as I read! But please please please don't stop writing. I cannot recommend highly enough this book or any of Shelly Laurenston's titles. Oh yeah, and don't forget G.A. Aiken too!!!!!!!!! (It was almost an accident to forget they are the same.)

Basically, again I love all of Shelly Laurenston's books because if you're in a funky mood, all you have to do is pick up her book and read. Her books always puts me in a better mood because of the humor. I love all her characters mainly for the name calling, bickering, their little quirkiness, silliness, humor which reminds me of many of my friends - minus the violence. This is one author that I can honestly say that I always look forward to her next books, because her books are chocked full of fun and surprises. Definitely escapism at its' best! Thanks Shelley for another fun read.

I totally love these books (Series name "The Pride") this series runs in tandum with "The Magnus Pack" - They are extremely funny, sexy and romantic. This one contains roller derby, all of series books contain some really funny situational stuff, I can't say enough about Shelly Laurenston and her sense of humor.

Reading a Shelly Laurenston book is like watching a madcap comedy movie but with lions, wolves and bears, oh my! Not to mention the occasional cross-breed (tigons for example) and - my faves - the wild dogs. The characters are quirky, funny, irrelevant and sometimes even a little frightening. Unlike a lot of "shape shifter" books, Shelly manages to write characters that are true to their animal nature and yet still very human. In what other shape-shifter world would you find male lion shifters who are kept, and even traded around, by the females for breeding only and seen as basically useless for the most part otherwise? Or a bear shifter whose initial attraction to a woman is because she smells like honey? You can tell I love Shelly's books and highly recommend them for anyone who wants something a lot different from the other bears.

Philadelphia street smart Gwen O'Neill is a hybrid shapeshifter of the lion-tiger combo. Suburban Lachlin "Lock" McRyrie is a calm purebred bear who is almost seven feet of muscle. These two are from opposite walks of life, but opposites attract at least in this case. Gwen rejects their obvious desire for one another as she prefers the single life and also acts as protector to her loved ones. Besides which being inner city, she feels the burb is not strong enough for her. However, Lock shows his inner strength when someone commits hate-crimes trying to hurt his loved one Gwen apparently for being a hybrid. The latest Mane urban romantic fantasy (see The Mane Event and The Mane Attraction) is a fabulous entry in a wonderful series. The story line is fast paced from the first meeting when the ferocious female basically growls at the gentle giant to get out of her heart and never slows down especially going over a mountain. Character driven by the lead couple and a nasty racist, fans will enjoy this fine tale while wondering whether the couple should buy Venetian blinds. Harriet Klausner

BEST SHIFTER NOVEL YET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I CANNOT SAY IT ENOUGH, THE BEST YET! And I know more is to come. In between that pesky place called worked I read your book, and tried not to break into constant hysterically laughter. When Mitch first meet Lock, I had to muffle my screams!Lachlan MacRyrie of the Clan MacRyrie and Gwen O'Neil of the O'Neil Pride are incredible funny, sweet, powerfully strong and weird - fantastic combination and expect no less from Shelly Laurenston. For this couple they were both coming at an intersection of their lives and ended up colliding because of fate and several fun loving dogs. And it made it all the more sweeter that they were there for each, even with Gwen's blood lust. And it was so great to read returning characters!!!There has recently been discussion of how when popular e-book authors transition to printed novels that they seem to lose "it". But not from Ms. Laurenston, from the first ebook I read of hers, she has never strayed from telling the story, expressing the passion, creating the laughter and making memorable characters. In fact from the first shifter novels that I read in ebook, I believe she has have put more into her books, and I keep falling in love!A winner every time singe time and yes I just finished the book and started to read it again. You can feel the love and the wildness in Ms. Laurenston's novels and it is always sssssooooo good!

I adore all the pride series books and have read the series several times. This one #4 the mane squeze is perfection, something dificult to say when they are all almost tied for first place. But this one and #5 beast behaving badly are usually the ones that keep bringing me back to the series most of the time. And then of course I have to start from the first one and read one after the other until I read all of them in sequence. Shelly Laurenston is a superb writer, her books have everithing in them that you could ask for and something you seldom find ( at least well done) by other authors: sentences or small scenes here and there that make you laugh with real joy. Great work.. Please keep writing.

The stories covers mostly what problems families can be to a possible relationship and how even friends will get into the mix. This is my favorite this series. The story is awesome.

Although I didn't love this book as well as the earlier ones, it still made me laugh out loud and fan myself at the love scenes. There were too many new characters popping out of nowhere (although it got straightened out at the end). Loved to be introduced to the world of roller derby! The main characters were great (loved all the bear traits - honey and salmon, yeah!) Looking forward to reading the rest of the series - the characters make me giggle!!! (And pant)
