During the 1980s, Queen ceased to be a big record seller in the U.S., but maintained its superstar status at home. In the '90s, following the death of Freddie Mercury, there was a brief resurgence of interest in America triggered by the inclusion of "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the movie Wayne's World. But in 1995, when the surviving members got around to releasing the final recordings done with Mercury in the form of Made in Heaven, the status quo had returned. The album topped the charts in Western Europe, with its single, "Heaven for Everyone," reaching the Top Ten, while in the U.S. it was on and off the charts within weeks. Musically, Made in Heaven harked back to Queen's 1970s heyday with its strong melodies and hard rock guitar playing, topped by Mercury's bravura singing and some of the massed choir effects familiar from "Bohemian Rhapsody." Even if one did not know that these songs were sung in the shadow of death, that subject would be obvious. The lyrics were imbued with life-and-death issues, from the titles -- "Let Me Live," "My Life Has Been Saved," and "Too Much Love Will Kill You" -- to lines like "It's hopeless -- so hopeless to even try" ("It's a Beautiful Day"), "Waiting for possibilities/Don't see too many around" ("Made in Heaven"), and "I long for peace before I die" ("Mother Love"). The odd thing about this was that Mercury's over-the-top singing had always contained a hint of camp humor, and it continued to here, even when the sentiments clearly were as heartfelt as they were theatrically overstated. Maybe Mercury was determined to go out the same way he had come in, as a diva. If so, he succeeded.

I have been a Queen fan for 17 years so firstly the review will be obviously biased to a certain degree. When I first got Made in Heaven I was unimpressed. I thought they had 'cheated' a bit by including songs that had already been done (Heaven for Everyone, My Life has been Saved, I was Born to Love You, Made In Heaven and Too Much Love Will Kill You) but after listening to the album a few times you cannot fail to be impressed by these tracks, the energy in I Was Born To Love You, the emotion in Too Much Love Will Kill You and the amazing guitar of Brian May in Made in Heaven is spine tingling. I do prefer the original version of My Life has Been Saved though. In addition there are new tracks, Let Me Live, Mother Love and You Don't Fool Me which rank up there with the best of Queen's music. If you dont have Made in heaven get it, no album fillers on this record just 11 classic rock tracks that will only leave you wishing there was more to come.

I am 16 years old but I'm still a fan of Queen and I have been since I was very little. I have a few of their albums. Made in Heaven is one of them. However, I actually don't like this album too much. The songs all sound too much the same and I don't like the way the subject of Heaven is repeated so many times. However, I think there are two songs definately worth listening to on this album. One is ''Winters Tale''. It's the last known song that Freddie ever recorded. It's got great lyrics and a really nice melody. Also, there are some great Queen harmonies in there too. My second choice is ''Too Much Love Will Kill You''. Theres something about this song that I seem to like very much. It's a very simple song and it just seems very sad. Freddies powerful voice is well suited to this song. However, I definately prefer their earlier albums. I don't like the up-tempo songs on this album at all. The other fact I don't like is the reprise of ''Beautiful Day''. I feel that this is a melodically plain song and that they don't need a reprise. However, I will continue to listen to this album.

"Made in Heaven" is an act of love and a special memorial tribute to the relationship between the remaining members of Queen and their lead singer Freddie Mercury. This product was pieced together and released four years after the death of Freddie Mercury. The lyrics carefully chosen, and the vocals that Freddie completed before his death were supported by by Roger Taylor and Brian May when needed to complete the product. A pleasant surprise, and most interesting are the two untitled hidden tracks at the end. One is just four seconds long and the last is about 22 minutes long.
