I'm in LOVE! This was lovely read, full of romance and adventure and a true Hero. I was having a really rotten week when somebody told me to read this book and boy were they right! I fell for the characters, the story, and even the concept. Imagine a greek Muse wandering around in your town, right? I've always loved mythology and Lisa Kessler's Lure of Obsession doesn't disappoint at all. Muses, sexy detectives, evil cults and madmen all rolled into a romance that titillates the senses and leaves you choked up in the end. The HEA in this book only assures me tht the next ones will be fantastic as well. Lisa Kessler tells a great story and teases you into her world so well when I hit the last page my reaction was, "Wait, What? I have to wait for more?" You see she tells the story and it stands alone but since you know it's only book number one you realize you must wait for more of the magic. I've already told my hubby he'll need to get the rest for me as they are released. He stared at me and asked"How Many?" (I've done tis before) and I told hom around eight or so just to see how he'd react. Then I read him chpter one. The man isn't objecting in fact, HE's stolen my copy for himself!

Intriguing & Suspenseful! This is the first book that I have read by Lisa Kessler but it definitely won’t be my last. This is not the genre that I normally read, but I could not put this story down. Riveting Intrigue and sizzling chemistry drew me in and kept me on the edge of my seat.
Loved the premise that this series is based on. Nine Greek Muses, the daughter’s of Zeus, who are reborn each generation, and charged with inspiring man kind to move forward in inventions, music and science to change the world. But of course wherever there is good there is also evil looking to destroy it and The Order is set on killing all of the Muses so the Golden Age Of Man would return.
This is Melanie Jacoby and Nate Malone’s story. Melanie or Mel is the Muse of Tragic Poetry who meets Nate Malone, a police detective that arrives on the scene after she finds her roommate dead in their apartment. Her roommate, Nia, was the Muse of Astronomy and Mel knows she was killed, but her death appears to be accidental. So with the help and protection from Nate as he tries to figure out everything that is going on, Mel and Nate soon realize that there is more to their sizzling attraction, that goes far deeper than they could ever imagine. Mel and the other Muses must find out who is trying to kill them before it is to late. Will Nate be able to save Mel? Will the Order give up? You will need to read to find out. Don’t miss this action packed, sizzling hot, intriguing new series. This took me back to my love of Greek mythology.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.

Lisa Kessler is definitely an author to read. Lure of Obsession, the first book in her Muse Chronicles has everything from friendship and love to suspense and mystery. The story sets up what promises to be an incredible series. Melanie Jacoby is a high school English teacher. She’s a human, chosen by the Gods to be one of the nine daughters of Zeus, reborn to inspire mankind to move forward with inventions, music, and science. The nine chosen daughters have various backgrounds and are from all across the country. Melanie, the Muse of Tragic Poetry, shares a home with Nia, the Muse of Astronomy. The story starts out with Melanie coming home and discovering the lifeless body of Nia at the bottom of the stairs. Police are convinced that Nia’s death was an accident and that she simply fell down the stairs. Melanie is adamant that Nia’s death was murder. Detective Nate Malone is a good detective. He’s smart and thorough. He tends to listen to his gut instincts. He initially agrees that Nia’s death was just a tragic accident until he’s alone with Melanie at her house and gets an unexplained vision. He now knows that Nia was murdered, but the question becomes who killed Nia and why. To figure out who’s behind Nia’s death and the attempts on Melanie’s life, the muses are going to have to rely on the ancient Greek scrolls and believe that nine Guardians have been put on Earth to protect them and help them with their quest to inspire. I loved everything about Lure of Obsession. The main characters immediately drew me into the story. For me, the concept of adding in Greek mythology with a modern day twist had me intrigued. The romance had me cheering Mel and Nate on, wishing and hoping to get a happily-ever-after for them. But the mystery and suspense is what kept me reading. It should be noted that each book in this series will feature a new couple. However, the danger to the muses continue throughout the series. It appears the ultimate villain sticks around throughout. The Muse Chronicles is definitely a binge-worthy reading series. I’m looking forward to the next book. **Personal Purchase**

Melany Jacoby, the Muse of Tragic Poetry, came home from work and found her roommate dead. Detective Nate Malone responded to a call about the death. From the moment he got there and met Melany, he wanted nothing more than to protect her. He also started seeing weird visions that might make her argument on how her roommate died believable. Being a fan of this author, I couldn’t wait for this book to come out. My love of Greek mythology being used by one of my favorite authors made this a must read. I was very happy that she didn’t disappoint. Once I started this book, I couldn’t put it down. Following Nate as he learns about Melany’s world and what he’s meant to do kept me completely pulled in. I loved both main characters and can’t wait to read the next book in this series. I highly recommend. **I received an ARC of this story in exchange for an honest review

The title is perfect as this story will lure you in from the very beginning, and, by the end, you will be obsessed! The Order of the Titans had agreed with his assessment. This generation, the Order would be successful where previous generations had failed, because this time they would steal mankind's inspiration. They would kill the muses for the greater good.... For the good of mankind. What is the wonderfully entertaining result when our modern-day incredibly gifted storytelling muse Lisa Kessler decides to construe the rebirth of Zeus's nine Greek muses? The Muse Chronicles, of course! With LURE OF OBSESSION being the first highly entertaining installment! Besides my love of everything Lisa writes, I can't remember a time when I wasn't fascinated by Greek mythology. The title is truly a perfect fit as the story will lure you in from the very beginning, and, by the end, you will be obsessed! Fasten your seat belt for the roller-coaster-ride story of English teacher Melanie, the Muse of Tragic Poetry, and police detective extraordinaire Nate Malone, her Guardian. As the story opens, Melanie has come home to find her roommate, Nia, the Muse of Astronomy, dead at the bottom of their stairs. Melanie and her fellow Muses suspect foul play, but, without any evidence to the contrary, the police deem Nia's death to be accidental. Nate is the detective on the scene. From the moment Nate meets Melanie, he feels a strong pull to her and begins to experience strange visions that completely throw him off his normal game. He doesn't know what is happening to him and whether he can trust these feelings and visions. Even so, it quickly becomes obvious that something bad is targeting Melanie and Nate is committed to protecting her at all cost. I really enjoyed the interactions between Melanie and Nate. They are the epitome of yin and yang - seemingly opposite forces that are actually complementary. Because of who she is, Melanie always thinks the worst in any situation and Nate offsets her negativity. Even though they are both on edge because of the imminent danger threatening Melanie, they still share plenty of moments of levity. Supporting characters include the remaining seven Muses, the dastardly Order of the Titans and a sweet orphan whose story will pull at your heartstrings. The Muses are committed to renovating and opening a theater that will inspire mankind in the sciences and the arts. The Order of the Titans is determined to do whatever necessary to ensure that the Muses' theater never opens its doors. Lisa seamlessly weaves Greek mythology, a steamy and heartwarming paranormal romance, a riveting mystery with perils at every turn and plenty of action sequences into an engrossing read. LURE OF OBSESSION is a great start to Lisa's fun new series. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys paranormal urban fantasy romances! I can't wait to read Callie's story next! She's the Muse of Epic Poetry! My full review is posted at Reading Between The Wines Book Club. Please check it out there!

Lisa Kessler has a hit in this new series! What would modern day Muses do? What would they look like? And who wants them dead? Find the answers to these and other questions in Lure of Obsession. This is a wonderful romantic suspense with a bit of paranormal thrown in. Melanie is the type of teacher I wanted and Nate needs someone like her in his life. Can’t wait to see who steps up for the other Muses.

What a way to start a new series! It’s no secret I’m a big Lisa Kessler fan, and this book has everything I have come to love about her writing – great characters, lots of emotions, great writing, and a story that pulls you in and makes you want to be a part of it. And I just love the premise of the series – focusing on the Muses and the mythology behind them. Nate doesn’t do relationships, but when he meets Mel all of his protective instincts kick in. When he begins having visions about the murder of Mel’s roommate, and then learns from Mel about the Muses and his status as her Guardian, he’s committed to keep her safe – but a relationship still isn’t something he thinks he’s capable of. Although Mel is usually a glass half empty type of person, a part of her being the Muse of Tragic Poetry, with Nate she’s able to feel safe…and I loved watching her push her negative thoughts aside when it comes to him. She’s aware of Nate’s aversions to relationships but is willing to put herself out there to see what might happen. She sees his past scars as a testament to his being a survivor, and I love how she begins to help him heal. I did find her a bit reckless though – I loved her wanting to help Nate when he didn’t have backup, but it was a bit frustrating to find her putting herself in danger...she was very stubborn! The supporting characters in the book helped set the stage for the overall series arc – something Lisa Kessler has a gift for doing. We are introduced to the other Muses and also the main players in the Order of the Titans. As the first book in a new series enough information was given about the lore and history without bogging the story down – something else that Lisa Kessler excels at. The writing was solid and even though the romance moved a bit quickly in my opinion it fit the lore of Muses and Guardians so it didn’t come across as insta-love (which I’m not a fan of!). As I already mentioned, the plot for not only this book and the series was laid out perfectly to keep the story moving and ending with a happy ever after but leaving enough open to have me waiting for the next installment in this series. A must read for any romance lover, but I think this would definitely appeal to any lover of mythology and suspense. I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.

Mythology in a contemporary murder mystery, romantic suspense! Take Greek mythology, add a modern take, have murder, mystery and a handsome, protective Guardian and Lisa Kessler has the perfect recipe for another riveting series! There are nine Muses who have had dreams that led them to an old dilapidated theatre and each other. One of them is Melanie Jacoby, and English teacher who is the reborn muse of tragic poetry. On returning home one evening she is shocked to find it in darkness. She shares her home with Nia, the Muse of Astronomy, who always has lights on throughout their home. Mel’s worst fears come true when she discovers her friend’s body at the bottom of the stairs. She calls the police but most of them seem to assume it is a tragic accident but Nate Malone, the detective in charge of the investigation has some strange experiences, visions of events that lead him to believe it wasn’t an accident and that Mel could be the killer’s next target. The scene is set for a great murder mystery with Greek overtones and romance, too. Both Mel and Nate are great, with additional well developed characters with plenty of background information to encourage the reader to empathise with them this is an engaging romantic suspense that I thoroughly enjoyed reading. I can’t wait to read more in this enthralling new series! I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The title fits perfectly because with the first words you are lured into this book and by the end you have become obsessed with this series! Or at least that is how it happened for me. I have been interested in reading this book and this series for a while and was so very not disappointed! The whole concept of the rebirth of the nine Muses and how they are meant to inspire each new generation of humanity to move forward is fascinating and excellent for a mythological based romance, especially when you add in the prophecy of “one Guardian for each Muse”. But as you read through the book you realize that the need for inspiration is not confined to “the Arts”. Scientists and doctors and especially our youth need inspiration to continually move our world towards a better place. Imagine if the Wright Brothers had never been inspired by Da Vinci’s drawings to build an actual airplane that flew. Imagine if Da Vinci had never been inspired by the heavens above him to create all he did! Think about all the technological advances we have made in the last 100 heck even in the last 50 or 10 years. And how those advances have not only changed how we see the world and each other, but also revolutionized medicine and physics and even music! Mel is a teacher and uses her (and her sister Muses) gifts to inspire her students. She gives them a safe place to open up that side of themselves and allows them to experiment till they find their voice. This inspires them to become better version of themselves. She also gives them a safe place to fail, and learn from this failure, to find the right path for themselves. I enjoyed the sense of humor the author brought to this book. These characters were able to find moments to laugh even as they were experiencing tragedy, sorrow and fear. Being able to do that makes us stronger as people. And they were able to open themselves to each other and take risks, even as they were scared of the changes to come and what the final outcome would be. Love inspires us all to be better.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Every good romance novel has a force working to keep the lovers apart. In Lure of Obsession, it is the King of the Greek Titans himself. And in every great romance novel, there is a wounded hero who needs his heroine to be healed, whether it be the men of the Sentella in Kenyon's League novels or Jess Anastasi's Quantum. Nate is in the company of amazing wounded heroes in need of healing. Every hero needs a heroine who is his equal, Melanie, a woman imbued with the spirit of the Muse of Epic Tragedy is just the right heroine for him. Every generation, the Muses return to earth as human women. These nine daughters of Zeus are given Gaurdians, protectors, and boy do they need the Muses need their Guardians this time around. There is a nefarious organization out there that will stop at nothing to stop them before they can inspire humanity to greater heights. And one of the Muses has already been killed. Only Nate believes the truth, and he is willing to do anything to prove he is right and protect Mel from the same fate. Even put his heart on the line. Nate will have to overcome his own inner demons from his past before he can accept his role in Mel's life. The story is extremely well plotted, moving along at a good pace. Sometimes, I would like a little deeper exploration of what is going on with Nate, but I think that may be an effect of all the reading I am doing in the genre! The other Muses, but for the one who was murdered (not telling you who!), aren't well defined with the sole exception of Callie, the Muse of Epic Poetry. Will she be the next Muse to find her Guardian. And I loved little Maggie, an excellently created child! She was neither saccharine sweet or a brat. A very nice change to see in a romance novel. Kessler's love scenes are precisely that. Well-crafted, tasteful, sweet love scenes that still steam up the pages. It is surprising, sometimes, to see how classy writers can be after an overload of crass descriptions. Kessler is a master at hinting and understanding what we need to see, hear and feel. Good plot, great hero, good heroine. The start of an intriguing, fun series with lots of possibilities and excitement.

Melanie Jacoby, Mel is the reborn Muse of Tragic Poetry. She is one of the muses and you can see how this affects her. She is working with the other muses to renovate a theater. Her roommate, Nia is the Muse of Astronomy. Mel comes home to find Nia dead, pushed down the stairs. Nate Malone is the detective that is assigned to Nia’s death. Nothing looks like foul play but he just can’t call her death accidental. It doesn’t help that when he arrives on scene he sees a vision of a man in a mask push Nia down the stairs. Together Mel and Nate find themselves drawn to each other. The muses are to have guardians and these two have just connected. Together they work to solve the murder of Nia and learn about The Order of Titans and their plot to bring back the Golden Age of Man. I really enjoyed this series. It has a great plot that kept me on my toes and I absolutely loved the relationship between Nate and Mel. Of course the Greek mythology just added so much to the story, although I would have liked to learn more about The Order of Titans. This is the first book that I have read from Lisa Kessler but it won’t be my last. I can’t wait to read about the next muse. But I think I can wait with so many of her other books to read in the mean time. I received a complimentary copy of this book. I voluntarily chose to read and post an honest review.

Lure of Obsession is the first book in author Lisa Kessler’s “Muse of Chronicles” series. This is actually the first book I’ve had the pleasure of reading from Ms. Kessler and I really enjoyed it. I immediately became invested in the characters and found myself having to read just one more page to see what was going to happen! I’ll definitely be finishing this series and will be looking into Ms. Kessler’s other books. Melanie “Mel” Jacoby is a teacher at the local high school. She’s also the reborn Muse of Tragic Poetry, ever since she turned eighteen. Ten years later, she and her fellow muse sisters are working together to restore a Theater to bring together the thinkers, artists, and dreamers of the world. When her roommate and Muse sister is murdered, they must convince the police it wasn’t an accident and protect themselves from a killer. Nate Malone is a detective. He’s dealt with hundreds of witnesses, but yet something about Melanie Jacoby brings out a protective nature he’s not comfortable with. When strange visions appear and his birthmark starts to inflame, Nate starts to think he’s insane. Wow, what a great start to this series! Ms. Kessler did a fantastic job of setting the stage for what’s to come in this series. We’ve got nine young women who are the reborn Muses. With the rebirth of the Muses, there are also Guardians whose powers won’t be revealed until they meet their Muse. So when the Muse of Astronomy is murdered, her roommate Mel meets a detective who happens to be her Guardian. This sets up our first Muse/Guardian couple. I immediately liked both Nate and Mel. They are both attracted to each other but Nate has issues from his past that makes him not want a permanent relationship. When Mel becomes the next target for the killer, Nate steps in to protect her. They were both great characters and I quickly wanted to see them get their HEA. I really enjoyed this book! I felt Ms. Kessler’s writing was excellent and she did a wonderful job of balancing everything within the story to give us a little bit of everything. It wasn’t just a romance, it wasn’t just a murder mystery, nor was the Mythology/Paranormal overwhelming. Just a perfect balance! Since this is the first book in the series, we meet the other Muses and will be seeing their stories in the following books. Of course, the villains are still on the loose so we will be dealing with them in the coming books also. Drama, suspense and a sweet romance make for a great read and a fabulous start to this series. Can’t wait to meet the rest of the Muses and their Guardians!

Muses. 9 of them. They have guardians. What it means no one knows at least not at the start of the book. This is a great start to a series and it looks like we will learn more about the muses and why someone is after them and trying to raise the Titans as the series progresses. Yes these are standalones but it seems like the story continues somewhat throughout the series. I like Nate, he is sensitive and has his own demons that he battles while figuring out the guardian thing since he is the first. Mel is a pistol and while she is the first muse with a guardian they are figuring it all out. With her the glass is half empty attitude and tendency for her thoughts to immediately go to the worse case scenario makes her an interesting one to start this off with. I have read other books in the series so it's good to come back and find out where it all started. Great read.

This is an intriguing story. Mythology mixing with the contemporary world. The instant attraction between Mel and Nate warned of something beyond them. Nate doubts himself but has such a big heart. It took Mel to push a bit to open him up. Their interactions with Maggie had tears in my eyes. I loved the HEA and look forward to more in this series to continue with the backstory. I received a copy of this story through Netgalley, and this is my unsolicited review.

This one was such an easy read. I finished it in a day. It is very similar to the Paladins of Darkness series by Alexis Morgan, the Eternal Guardians series by Elizabeth Naughton, and the Iron Portal series by Laurie London. The characters were easy to like, the conflict was believable, the passion was great, and the love story developed steadily. I liked the role reversal with the fact that the man is the one who comes to know the paranormal exists rather than the female.  The women come into their muse at 18 where the Guardians don't come into their abilities until they cross path with their muse, so it is left to the women to induct the strong alpha type men into their world. It was a fun read and I'm glad I picked it up on NetGalley.
