Overview

What child does not love to receive mail? What if that child could receive, open and read his or her own personal mail from God? The Love Letters from God will invite them to do just that! Accompanying each story in this unique children’s Bible is a very special and encouraging letter, each tucked away in its own lift-the-flap envelope, just for them. Written for children ages four to eight, the Love Letters from God includes eighteen of the most popular Bible stories—nine from the Old Testament and nine from the New Testament. Following each story the child will find his or her own letter from God. Children will love the excitement of opening the letters and parents will love how each letter elaborates on the Bible story being told. A very special Bible verse, entitled God’s Wonderful Words To You will accompany each story and letter. Much more than a mere memory verse, each carefully chosen promise will be God’s very own personal words of love, encouragement, and hope. This book will culminate in an invitation for the children to write their own RSVP to God.

This manuscript presents 18 popular Bible stories each complete with a love letter from God to your child. A blank space on each letter, which is a flap that must be opened like a letter would be, allows you to write in your child's name. This book is unique and allows you to draw your children into God's stories even more thanks to the personal letters. I loved this book for my son and think it would make a great Christmas gift. Note: I received a review copy of this book from the publisher, Zonderkidz.

My granddaughters and I love to write letters back and forth to each other. I enjoy doing this because it is an easy way for me to tell them one more time that I love them. It allows me to be a part of their lives even when we are miles apart.  While it is important to me that they know I love them, it is even more important to me that they know God loves them. In fact He has given them beautiful love letters to assure them of that very fact. Those love letters are found in the Bible.  In her book Love Letters from God, Glynys Nellist highlights some of the best Bible stories that convey the love of God. Each story is told in a very engaging way that will appeal to young listeners. Along with each story there is a short Bible verse that would be an easy memory verse to help your child remember the truth of God's love. At the end of each story there is a lift-the-flap letter that can be personally addressed to your child and is written to them from God.  When I was reading this book aloud to a couple of my grandkids their faces just lit up when I read the letters to them. The idea that God would love them so personally that He would pen a letter to them made them feel so special.  If you have children in your life this would be a great book to purchase for them. The importance of knowing God loves you cannot be overstated. The knowledge of God's love is the best gift that you can give to those special people in your life.I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review.

Love Letters From God Bible Stories by Glenys Nellist, illustrated by Sophie Allsopp is a new picture book for young children. What makes this book unique among choices of the overly saturated bible story book genre, is in the hidden and unexpected details. First an foremost are interactive flaps that children can lift up on each page. These flaps are actually "letters" written from God's point of view to your child. The salutation, "Dear _______" has a blank space for a parent to write in the child's name for further personalization. This makes the story real and personal for the child. The letters are not arbitrary but rather they expand on the bible story featured. Just as one may expect from a bible storybook, this has a few of the most beloved and well known stories from the old and new testaments. "The Sneaky Snake" describes the account in Genesis. "Bethlehem's Baby Boy" tells the story of the birth of Jesus. Bold bright cartoon styled illustrations accompany the stories. There is color throughout the book- no white space but actually full page scenes. Finally in the end, there is an "invitation" as well as a space for a child to write their own letter- making this book a keepsake as well. This large sized story book would make a great gift for any child. The story style is animated and will hold a child's interest in contrast to dry, traditional writing. As a blogger for BookLook I received a copy of this book for the purpose of writing this review. This book is published by Zonderkidz.

Finally, a Bible story book with objectively lovely illustrations and text that focuses solely on God's love His children! Love Letters from God is a wonderful gift of a book. As soon as I saw the premise- a love letter with a Bible story- I knew I wanted to have this book in my hands. Glenys Nellist has re-written almost 20 Bible stories using words and phrases that will capture the imagination and convey the character's feelings to a child. I love the titles she chose. There's "The Tiny Tax Collector" - we know he's the one who climbed the tree! "The Little Boy Who Listened" - Samuel, who falls asleep confident that God knows his name! She takes us from the very beginning in Genesis to Joseph's bravery and David's trust in a big, strong God. Then she takes us to Jesus, born in Bethlehem, and to the one lost sheep that the Shepherd treasured, and to Communion, when Jesus said "Remember me." And every story on it's two page spread is illustrated all over the page. I don't know how to describe it, but the illustrations include fabric and buttons and paintings and sketches and leaves and coins and tissue paper and flowers. And it's like a collage on each page, especially because you have a lift the flap letter, where God assures the child of His love, care, presence, and protection. Sophie Allsopp did an incredible job with the artwork. What a lovely way to talk about Jesus and His Abba. We all need to take the Love Letters here to heart. Our God will never leave us. Knows us fully. Loves us dearly. Stays with us always. I can't wait to use this book with children, and to give it as a gift. Thank you Zonderkids and Booklook for my review copy. This one's going on my children's shelf!
