Life among the Apaches by John C. Cremony, a surveyor for the U.S. Boundary Commission, mapping the American/Mexican frontier in the 1850s. There he experienced Apache culture, and over the next twenty years learned more about them than any other white man knew. Life Among the Apaches survives today as the first and foremost source on Apache beliefs, fighting tactics, and tribalism.

This was a fantastic book depicting the nature of the Apaches as described by someone who lived among them for many years. The author does his best to detail the lives of the Apaches without exaggeration or persuasion considering his personal beliefs. Loved it.
