Overview

The KJV Apocrypha in a single volume. The Apocrypha ('hidden things') are contemporaneous with the Old Testament, but were not officially accepted as part of the Bible when the Hebrew 'canon' was set. They did, however, form part of the Greek Scriptures and came into English Bibles by that route. The writings of the Apocrypha run the whole gamut of literary genres: histories, romances, devotional works, proverbs and sermons. Many complement parts of the Old Testament and readers will recognise some familiar Biblical characters in the narratives, such as Daniel and Esther.

In your searches and conversations have you ever heard mention of books from the old testament of the bible you didn't even know existed? It's rather troublesome to read verses from books that you can't even refer to in your own bible. After the Protestant Reformation, the new fathers of the new church wanted a new (more exact) bible for their practitioners to read, so they threw out the books of the old testament that no longer existed in their original Hebrew, even though they still existed in Greek or Aramaic copies. They even threw out books that were still around in Hebrew when St. Jerome translated the first Latin bible, the Vulgate, in 405. The APOCRYPHA restores those lost books to your bible. This particular book is the original King James Version without the usual lengthy commentaries ad nauseam. This is a tiny volume of the texts themselves without any expensive frills.

The Apocrypha are the original Hebrew texts that were in the Old Testament. They explain the historical meaning behind the Jewish holiday's. The stories in the Apocrypha are between the years after Exodus and the end chapter of the Old Testament. They were removed from the Protestant movement when they split from Catholicism. The Eastern Orthodox and Catholic denominations teach briefly on the Apocrypha. But if you want to learn the historical meaning behind Jewish holidays. I recommend to get this book, I've read it, and its very refreshing to see that part of history come back to life. It will not change your view of the Bible, but if you share it with other believers in Christ. Many of them have heard rumors that it is a heresy. Which is totally not true in this case. I believe the Apocrypha texts are part of the Old Testament. Removing them doesn't replace history, there have been findings of these texts from archaeologist's. See for yourself I give this book 5 stars 100%.
