About the Author

Widely esteemed as the greatest writer in the English language, William Shakespeare (1564-1616) was an actor and theatrical producer in addition to writing plays and sonnets. Dubbed "The Bard of Avon," Shakespeare oversaw the building of the Globe Theatre in London, where a number of his plays were staged, the best-known of which include Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and Macbeth. The First Folio, a printed book of 36 of his comedies, tragedies, and history plays, was published in 1623.

I purchased this edition of King Lear for my 13 year old daughter, who was reading the play for her 8th grade Language Arts class. She is a voracious reader, but she wasn't enjoying reading this. Her appreciation of the story, and comprehension of the language increased dramatically. I love Will, but there is no reason to ignore new learning tools which would kindle this love in new generations of students. No Fear Shakespeare does that, and painlessly as well.

This is Shakespeare. It is classic but the original language is difficult. The idea to put the original text next to modern English is brilliant. You get the story but you do not have to struggle with old English. Thank you! Well done!

This was the first book from Shakespeare that I have actually read in my entire life. :) It was great! This book is wonderful if you have a hard time interpreting his writing. It has the original writing of Shakespeare on the left of the page and the translation of it in plain English on the right. I read this book in two days. It's a page turner for sure! Highly recomended.

I always liked the No Fear Shakespeare books but this one was definately my favorite of all of Shakespeares. It deals with family problems simple and large. No Fear did another great job on translating. Much conflict and death but certainly a great book.
