When Katie sees the shivering, emaciated dog locked in the junkyard, she know she has to save him. But dogs aren't allowed in her housing project, and money is scarce at home. Then brutally cold weather hits, and Katie knows that the dog will die without shelter--unless she can figure out how to help him. Written in spare prose, here's an inspiring story of responsibility and commitment for young feminists and animal lovers alike.

I'm giving it 5 stars because when I was about 4th grade I bought this book and it was my favorite! I read it like 10 times..Now I'm in highschool so I don't read it anymore, but it's still a good book for younger audiences! I'm a dog lover and I felt so sorry for the dog in the book, and I loved how the girl helped him.

'The Junkyard Dog' is for people who enjoy reading books about animal companionship. This is a book with great writing in it, but is anticlimatic and leaves you kind of hanging in the end about if Katie adopts Lucky or not and many other things such as the move that they were planning to make, the NEW junkyard dog, etc. I also think that this book needs a sequal.

The book I read was very well described and I felt the book was very touching in the way that the girl gives up her money to help the dog and also builds a strong relationship with her stepfather and a boy in her class. I loved this book!!!!
