Carey Baldwin, author of the thrilling novel Confession, returns with a new story featuring two of her most beloved characters. Fans of Tess Gerritsen and Lisa Gardner will devour this riveting story of rivals caught in a killer's twisted web.

When a coed falls prey to a sadistic murderer, forensic psychiatrist Dr. Caitlin "Caity" Cassidy and Special Agent Atticus Spenser are called in to testify—one for the defense, one for the prosecution. With warring approaches to justice, these two rivals have been butting heads for years—both inside the courtroom and out. And at first, this case appears to be no different.

But when a brutal attack leaves the accused man dead and Caity in critical condition, petty differences take a backseat to saving lives. As the lone survivor, Caity knows too much, and the killer—a madman calling himself the Man in the Maze—is coming back for round two. Now Caity and Spense must join forces to uncover the killer's identity before Caity's time—and luck—runs out.

WOW! I received an advance copy of JUDGMENT in exchange for an honest review and loved this engaging thriller so much that I bought a copy too! And I plan on purchasing the print format for my keeper shelf when that's released. This book was so well-written. Perfect pacing for a thriller, opening with some take-your-breath-away action scenes and then taking off from there. I just adored the male protagonist, Spense, who has had to struggle to get past some learning disabilities. That flaw made this otherwise perfect hunk endearing, especially once we learn how he learned to control and overcome his difficulties to succeed (warning, tears might happen!) the chemistry and delicious, snappy dialogue between Spense and his female partner-Caity-is just delicious. If you like complex, suspenseful thrillers with fun, sexy protagonists, you will thoroughly enjoy this novel.

An outstanding example of thriller mixed with romance with a strong heroine and a hero to die for!  Baldwin manages to handle multiple threads of narrative wit ease and leads the reader on a pulse-pounding adventure from the first page to the last. I can't wait for Caity and Spense's next adventure!

I really enjoyed this book. The hero has problems with learning to cope with life, and sometimes talks when he would do better to think first. I liked the characters so much, I bought  Confession also. If you have not read any thing by Carey Baldwin, this is a great book to start.

Book was pretty good, many twists and turns!! The author does not deserve all the snarky comments from one of the previous reviewers! This site is for book reviews NOT attacks on authors. By the way******you might try using a dictionary for proper spelling of your critical comments!!!!

To the Anonymous Reader who gave one star and such rude comments.  I have not yet read the book, but I believe you have forgotten  basic  people niceties.  We do not all have the same tastes in life, in general, and books, in specific, but that is no reason that you, in a  very uneducated way, with more mis-spelled words then properly spelled words should ever make another feel bad.  The doctor wrote a book, you  can like it or leave it,  and can rate it as such, but I found your comments very disrespectful.  I happen to enjoy suspenseful thrillers, with  twists and turns but that does not mean this type of book is for all.

Two primary characters are real. Super bright but with some of the mental hengups we all have. Story line keeps you guessing and anxiously reading on.

I was into this story from page one. It kept my interest and would read another of Ms Baldwin's books. A lot of guessing who was behind the plot.

Good story line, held my interest to the very end!

This is a good story, but the author relies too heavily on profanity to express emotion. An author with a good vocabulary would not find that necessary. The proliferation of these words detract from the narrative.

First time reading Carey Baldwin, Cassidy & Spenser. Just when you think they found the bad guy there is another twist. Enjoyed!

Fab thriller! Carey never disappoints and always keeps me on the edge of my seat. Dr. Caitlin Cassidy watched her father executed for a crime she still believes he did not commit. Now when she becomes a near victim of a murderer who may or may not be a serial killer, she wants more than ever to prove her father’s innocence when it appears there may be a connection. Special Agent Atticus Spenser, Spense to those who don’t want a punch in the face, has the hots for Caity Cassidy and doesn’t hold back from letting her know it. He’s more than pleased to be working closely with her as well as acting as her personal bodyguard after she was nearly killed by the same man who killed her father’s lawyer, Harold Baumgartner. He understands Caity better than she knows and wants to protect her, even if only from herself. Working together, against odds neither had counted on, Caity and Spense get closer to discovering the truth about the elusive Man in the Maze, which may change everything. With Spense at her back, his skills as a profiler assisting her, Caity begins to piece together a puzzle, which throws her in the line of fire again, and again. Can Spense keep her safe while still doing his doing job? He can only hope so. JUDGMENT by Carey Baldwin is edge of the seat thrilling. A real whodunit puzzle, which just when you think you know who the Man in the Maze really is, you discover you don’t. The sexual tension between Caity and Spense is so thick you might need more than a knife to cut through it, yet they commit themselves to holding back on any romantic shenanigans until after they solve this exasperating mystery. It doesn’t mean they’re not tempted on occasion though. Yes, I generally like a little more romance with my suspense but honestly, the mystery is so compelling, I didn’t really miss it. This one would satisfy the most expectant mystery lover. The only real issue I had was, well, the number of bodies don’t seem to add up. Read it and see if you catch what I’m talking about because if I try to explain, I might spoil the fun. I highly recommend JUDGMENT, a Cassidy & Spenser Thriller by Carey Baldwin to anyone who loves a good whodunit, edge of the seat thriller without too much gruesome detail but a whole lot of clues, misdirection, and of course, action. I can’t wait to see what Carey gives us next – more Cassidy & Spenser, I hope. ***purchased for my personal reading but sharing my honest and unscripted review.

Another great book by Carey Baldwin. JUDGMENT is an exciting mystery/thriller and Baldwin kept me guessing until the end. Caity and Spense are smart, complex characters that have to profile a killer while avoiding danger to their own lives. They have AWESOME chemistry. I understand the next books will be about them as well and I can't wait to read more.

Good mystery with twists and turns. The characters are well developed. Not a book for children as it contains violence, some foul language and sexual situations. The story grabs you on page one and keeps you reading. It did move a bit slowly mid-way through but then picked up the pace again. Looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

Carey Baldwin just keeps getting better! Intense psychological suspense and a courageous, smart heroine to root for, this book has everything! I LOVE the dynamic between Cassidy and Spenser. The slow burn between them was just right for this book but I hope it heats up more in the next installment.

Judgement by Carey Baldwin was a scary and amazing thriller. I don't usually do thrillers because I'm a scaredy cat; but I won this book in a contest and I had to try it. Fast paced plot, well developed characters that I really liked, so many twists and turns that I never had a clue who the evil madman was until the reveal and a psychological thrill ride from start to finish. There was a pretty descriptive crime scene but only the one. That was enough for me but it led to the next step in the story so it made sense for it to be there. I liked the way the relationship between Cassidy and Spenser begins to evolve as the story progresses. It feels real and natural considering the case they are trying to solve. I've already started on book two in this series, FALLEN.
